Anybody want to help a Finn out? See I've got all these Nintendo published Wii games with their product codes registrable on Club Nintendo. Codes that are exchanged into Stars upon completing a short customer survey. Stars I can't use because Finland isn't one of the European Club Nintendo countries.

I'd heard contradicting stuff about being able to register a Club Nintendo account in Finland so I finally had to bite the bullet and sacrifice one of the codes (New Play Control: Pikmin 2 @ 250 Stars) to find out. Everything seemed to go swimmingly until it was time to link the console to the Nintendo Club account through the Wii Shopping Channel. I'm guessing based on my location, the button to do just that was missing, made obvious by the fact it's visible in the related online help screenshot.

So I guess I could register all my games on Club Nintendo, receive Stars and MAYBE use them to get some physical goodies exclusive to club members. I don't know, I haven't looked into it because frankly I'm not that interested. What I wanted to do was to exchange the Stars into some Wii Points to use as currency on the Wii Shopping Channel and apparently I can't do that.

I'm thinking maybe somebody wants my product codes, somebody wants those Stars. Somebody who could turn the Stars into the more usable Wii Points or do whatever it is they do with Stars. Maybe somebody who holds Stars in some kind of value might be so delighted to receive some *for free*, that in exchange they might consider sending Wii Shopping Channel Gifts of appropriate value off my list back my way.

Or something. I don't know. I don't have a definite deal to propose here. I just want to get in touch and in talks with somebody honest to make use of the apparent value in these product codes. At best we'll both get something nice out of it and naturally you'll become my go-to guy/gal whenever I acquire another Nintendo product. :)

If you are eligible this seems easy and fair enough, please do get in touch.

If you are eligible and willing but all of this makes even less sense to you than it does to me, well, I guess we can plow through it but I'd rather get this out of the way as painlessly as possible. The Club Nintendo card off of Pikmin 2 says "Eligibility for membership exclusive to residents of UK & Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal and South Africa" which I gather is important for being able to register my PAL-Euro games and to fully utilize the Stars you get out of it. Sending Shopping Channel Gifts is also restricted to within region.

You can either reply here or contact me directly on

the #gog IRC channel on QuakeNet,
by emailing (my username) (at) kapsi.fi or
through the GogPM service
, which I think I'll now have to start checking all OCDish.

Also, Wii Friend Code: 1435 6725 5764 8772, w00t!

I may already have put more effort into this essay of a post than the monetary value of our little future endeavor is worth but what the heck, let's just have fun with it. Anybody up for some fun?

TL;DR: I want you to have my Club Nintendo Stars, and to get a little something something in return.

Just so you know,t he conversion from Stars to Wii/DS points is HORRENDUOS. It's like, 7 Wii games = 500 nintendo points, or thereabouts.

raina: *snip*
Just tell them that you live in England, and you can redeem your points. Worked for me, at least.

Yeah, I caught wind of that just as I was about to post and just did it anyway. Maybe conversion is not the best way to go. The member levels /swag you can get with the Stars might give you better mileage. It seems to me IF you want Stars, it would be appealing to have several games worth of them through a low budget gift exchange.

How? If I go for the Points Cards, I'm taken to the Nintendo Points Card Shop and when I log in, I get this:
Perhaps you made a typing mistake, or your Club Nintendo account is not yet linked to your Wii Shop Channel account or your Nintendo DSi Shop account. Do you want to try again?
My Club Nintendo account is not yet linked to my Wii Shop Channel account because I'm not presented with the option to do so in Wii Shop Channel.

Some developments: I found that I can actually change the country on the console itself and after I did that and went on the Shop Channel, I was prompted with my Club Nintendo login. It says the accounts are now linked but the Card Shop website still throws the same error. I guess I'm gonna have to give it a little time to let the linking sink in. ;)

Damuna: Do they still do the whole "collect X stars, trade them in for bonuses" thing? I remember they did that with the Zelda bonus disc, but I never managed to get it. :(
They do indeed. They currently have SNES classic controllers for a whopping 7000 points. My brother and I got one after about 45 minutes entering a 5 year backlog of star points codes.
Conclusion: After waiting a little I was finally able to purchase a measly 100 point virtual card with my initial stars and redeem it on the Shop Channel. So, the system works! Thanks for making me keep at it, Zchinque. Have some rep.

Damuna: How much will a Gamecube, a Wii, and a load of games get me, do you reckon?
A Wii should give you a 1000 points. I don't think mine came with a registrable product code. :/ The code for your Gamecube has expired, as had the one on my copy of Super Mario Sunshine. The codes on my Wii games seem to be longer too, so the whole system might have been updated. Some relevant quotes from Nintendo's European websites:
*Welcome bonus for initial registration = 250 Stars
Stars Registration hardware: Wii console = 1000 Stars, Nintendo DS = 500 Stars
Registration software: Price < £ 26 (€ 29) = 100 Stars, Price £ 26-43 (€ 29-49) = 200 Stars, Price > £ 43 (€ 49) = 250 Stars (Recommended retail price)
When do product registration cards expire?
Registration cards for Nintendo games expire three and a half years after the product first becomes available at retail.

Can I still register Nintendo GameCube and Game Boy Advance games?
No. All Club Nintendo registration cards have an expiration date and Nintendo GameCube and Game Boy Advance titles can no longer be registered.

How much is a load? 10, 20, 50? Most games were 250 per game (although more recent ones seem to be 200). Consoles were 500 points IIRC.

7000/250 is 28. Of course some of your games might only count for 200... Don't forget that 3rd party games don't have points.

EDIT: I got edit ninja'd by Raina.
