Hammerfall: Spiting yourself by not playing a game in your favorite franchise due to an inconvenience = epic fail.

DarrkPhoenix: As someone who has passed on quite a few games due to the DRM they use, let me explain my reasoning for doing so a bit. To put it simply there are more games out there than I have time to play, and on top of that my time is limited and fairly valuable to me. Thus when deciding which games to spend my time and money on a factor I consider is whether something about the product could cause problems or waste my time. Many forms of DRM have the potential to do this, to various degrees. So I balance out the potential for DRM to cause problems with how much additional enjoyment I'd expect to get from a game over the other games I could also get, and in many cases simply come to the conclusion that the DRM simply doesn't make the purchase worthwhile. It's not a matter of spiting myself to try to make some kind of point, it's simply a matter of valuing my time and being a sensible customer.

I completely understand that standing.
But what I don't understand is when people will skip out on a game in their favorite franchise due to something as harmless as having to download steam or use battle.net... It doesn't benefit anybody.

What's hard to understand about that? It's perfectly rational. "Favourite franchise" means you enjoyed one or more prior games that were similarly branded, but is hardly an argument that you're spiting yourself by failing to play subsequent games. Meanwhile, if you have a problem with the restrictions then it's either because you find the experience frustrating or because it is prohibitive for you. Either way, it's an unpleasant experience that you're better off missing.

That's what I just explained in my previous post. And not having to deal with annoying bullshit and the problems it occasionally causes is quite beneficial to me.

Because I value my ability to make a statement and I don't consider compulsory use of battle.net or Steam "harmless" at all. I consider it invasive and destructive to gaming and culture in general.
I can't say I've ever felt "spited" by my own informed personal value judgments of products which interest me.
If I know what I'm getting and I decide that I don't want it, that's a choice, not a problem.

RetroVortex: I still would have prefered a Might and Magic RPG over this.
Even if it was nothing like the original series, (though I think a game like M&M can be re-imagined successfully while retaining some of the core elements).
From what I've seen about this game so far, it seems like Ubisoft is going to disappoint a lot of people yet again.

oldschool: I totally agree. although my last post was rather childish. I still would like to see one more M&M game. If i am correct the last one was released in '02. I just wish they would just sell the licence or just do something with other than smother it to death

Yea, I only really played 7 and 9, and despite all the bugs and the old graphics, they were really enjoyable games.

Navagon: You seem pleased. Would you also be pleased if uruk resurrected your dead relatives as zombie minions? Because this is going to be no more pleasant.
Ubisoft: a company so retarded as to think that UbiDRM is a good idea. A company so retarded they can't even get the name of one of their own series right. A company whose employees are leaving because all the shoddy publisher is interested in now is the graphics.
Yeah, bodes well does that.

FlameWhip: I would be more worried but after playing might and magic: clash of heroes on the DS I was really impressed by how well ubi could implement at least a spinoff in the same universe. Or maybe my Sandro avatar is going to my head.

Clash of Heroes was indeed very entertaining. I still have yet to play through Heroes V, I should probably get on that.
So how is the beta? I want to buy the game to try the beta but I need feedback from beta players. I watched the gameplay videos and it looks really good.

Well... There's not much. One skirmish map. Three campaign maps, two of them tutorials. Plus it's not really much of a beta. An older build. Has bugs they might have already fixed.

The game seems fun enough, but I wouldn't really say the beta is that good.
