ktchong: Here's a tip for every future Kickstarter for video game: get a hot chick to pitch the project.

spindown: That didn't work out so well for Wings: Director's Cut http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/850516062/wings-directors-cut
Even a hot chick couldn't push a product that sucks. The Kickstarter was clearly not even trying to sell the game.

I'm kind of disappointed that they are skewing this game more towards RPG than adventure. The QFG games were great (and unique) in that they were essentially adventure games with RPG elements. I don't see how an RPG with adventure elements is any different to the Bioware games, larian's RPGs, infinity engine games etc.

I'll see how things progress before I back it. If it was more like QFG i'd back it in a heartbeat.

I can't disagree here. I was hoping for something more slanted towards adventure elements, and I think that would have suited them better.

Yep, same here. Not enough Adventure/RPGs out there, so I'm really looking forward to Quest for Infamy and Mage's Initiation. We'll see how Hero-U turns out, but I am a tad less enthusiastic for it than when the Coles initially hinted at doing a Kickstarter.

Gonchi: Mage's Initiation
Good to see you mention this. Do you mind starting a thread for it? I think I've overshot my thread-starting limit for the month. Anyway I'm quite excited for this. Will definitely be preordering their CE once they announce it.

Haven't really been keeping up with the development, but I believe they're still in the early stages. Might be better to wait until they're a bit further along or there are some major news about the game to open a thread specifically for discussing it, or I fear it'll simply get lost in the chatter.

Plus I'm always interested to see game developers try something new, but my initial reaction to Hero-U was that it reminded me of Dungeons of Dredmor. It doesn't seem distinct enough at this point, but we've only seen concept art so there's probably more to come.

I guess the question is, distinct enough from what? Distinct enough from the isometric family of RPGs (Veil of Darkness, infinity engine etc)? Distinct enough from the first person family (elder scrolls, wizardry, M&M)? Distinct enough from the SCI adventures?
I think they said their goal will be $400,000.

I think something like $150k and 3500 first day backers would be a good start, just based on how other similar projects have done.
http://www.gog.com/en/forum/general/quest_for_glory_kickstarter_maybe_coming/post90

So, after almost 30 hours, we're at 1300 backers and $85. I think the project is in good shape overall, but given the expected mid-campaign slowdown that every kickstarter sees, I'd feel much better being at $150k right now.

As they reveal more details about the game with art concepts and such, I think the influx of new backers will pick up.
I've already signed on to this, but I thought i should mention that there's another thread regarding this project here on GOG.com. Should be consolidate the posts, or just leave things as they are?

This. When I first looked at the kickstarter when it just started, I saw the concept arts and all my brain was reading was QfG ... silly me, of course, but that's just not it. When I later realized this whole 2D stuff (whether it's no going to be handdrawn or not) I knew this wasn't for me. For me, why QfG became a cult is simply that it's Adventure mixed with RPG. In that order. That's really hard to get nowadays if not impossible. Yeah, Mass Effect would count. But there's not much else to choose. But that's not the point. My point is: for me the kickstarter project is primarily a RPG. But the reason I was able to dig so deep into the Story was primarily the "pimped" Adventure effect.
They're aiming for an RPG experience with as strong an Adventure story element as their previous games. The RPG mechanics are simply meatier-- probably along the lines of Dragonfire (Quest for Glory V.) The Coles have a strong portfolio of games that are part of the classic Sierra catalogue (even if QfGIV suffered because of a shortened QA cycle by management), I think they've proven they can provide unique experiences.

Furthermore, this is also about telling the game industry that their one-size-fits-all approach may work for a certain demographic, but that there's a whole group of untapped players who would like to see something a little more thoughtful.

Final day and 10% left to go on the campaign. If you were on the fence, please help us close the Kickstarter, thanks! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1878147873/hero-u-rogue-to-redemption
