Ok, guys, I decided to reinstall Resident Evil 4, and now I need some help. Now that I've installed it, what should I do now? I figure the mouse aim patch is a must, but I haven't been able to get it working beofre. I figure with your guys' help I will, plus get a number of other improvements as well. So, can anybody help?

Last I checked the mouse aim mod was very finicky and only worked on cracked Euro versions or something. That was years ago though, so it might be completely different now.

RE4 was made to work with a controller though and the mouse aim mod was not perfect even when you got it working, so I actually advise you play with an Xbox 360 controller with the mod that changes all the in-game graphics to match the 360 pad. After that you will want to mod in the better textures and better lighting which get it to look as close to the Gamecube version as possible (and better).

Those three mods (Xbox button graphics, textures and lighting) are the ones I used when I played the game and it was a good experience, no issues. It still lacks some geometry from the Gamecube version but the AA, high resolutions and high-res textures make it still the best looking version if you ask me.

StingingVelvet: Information
I don't have a Xbox controller, and honestly never plan on getting one. And the mouse aim mod only works on cracked Euro copies? That's... absurd. And my computer's not that great, but I've heard that a lot of the graphics mods don't really affect performance, is that true?

For better or worse it is pretty much the default PC gaming controller at this point. I'm not telling you to get it, that's your choice obviously, but it saves a lot of headaches when you want to use a gamepad.

Last I heard, yes. That might have changed eventually, I haven't kept up with the RE4 modding scene (and that's a main reason I didn't offer you links).

Well the texture mod would only hit your VRAM and unless your GPU is ancient I doubt it would be a big deal. The lighting mod is probably insignificant.
Well balls. Everything seems to point to this being a fruitless venture on my part. Thank you for your help, StingingVelvet, I appreciate it.

Yeah, I saw Re4 at the stores for PC and thought about getting it, googled reviews and found out that unless I had a X360 controller it would just be shit.

So yeah, I'm waiting till I finally get one then buying it.
To be honest I find the game itself to be vastly overrated anyway. It's not the slow, moody survival horror game the first couple were, it's more of a straight-up action game only the controls are so cumbersome and slow it makes the game more frustrating than fun. Resident Evil 5 was bashed for that, why no one noticed when 4 came out is beyond me.

Well, I didn't really like the first three... The awkward cameras killed it for me, even got the remake of RE for Gamecube... It was still shit for me.

Might be to do with my deafness though, heaps of people raved about how "moody" it was and how scary blah blah... *shrug*

Re4 however, hit all the sweet spots for me.
