Ever since I got this card whenever I try to install the drivers from amd/ati the installed says failed to load detecting driver and then stalls/locks up and I have to shut it down forcefully. I've tried deleting the drivers currently on the system and going into safemode and running driver cleaner to remove the remainder but I still can't get the drivers to install from the installer...it always says failed to load detection driver.

I DO however have manual install option by going into device manager and clicking display(where it says standard vga after driver cleaning btw) and installing manually by choosing where the installer dumped the install resources, and the card shows up in display after that in device manager. But I can't use CCC as it needs to be installed via the installer and every tiem I run it I get the damn message again.
Oh btw the card is a radeon 5770 by Gigabyte and my system is Vista 32 bit.

Actually, you can download and install CCC by itself from here.

Tried that...same thing. Failed to load detection driver.

Also TO ALL: When I go into safe mod to delete and cleanoput then reinstall the driver files I do everything and windows says standard vga under display (as presumeably windows installs the default driver for it) but then seconds later it changes to the name of my video card without me reinstalling the driver for the card. Is windows maybe set to autosearch and install the card specific driver without my permission first or something if the drivers ever get defaulted or what?

Do you have an other PCIE x16 slot on your board? If so, I'd try to put that card into the other one if I were you. You can even try to simply remove the put the card back to the very same place after a few minutes. Look into the BIOS too an check all the setting regarding the VGA/PCIE stuff.
And if nothing else helps, you can try to do a clean install of Vista.
This happened to me once.. no matter what I did I couldn't get my ATI drivers to install... I had to end up removing all traces of DirectX and drivers from my system then reinstall DX and a fresh distib package of drivers.

It's not as 'easy' as that now though.. I use XP and DX can be removed entirely.. if you're using Vista or Win7 then things get a little screwed up because there are always files hanging around... plus you have the hassles of the OS telling YOU what you can do as opposed to you telling it, so I'm not sure if that particular 'solution' will work in those cases.

Thanks all, I found some forums offsite that mentioned that I had to install VC 2005++ HOTFIX off of microsoft's site to allow the ATI installers to function properly. Now I have CCC back, and everything is up to date. :)

Here's what I did: 1. Went to safe mode and deletd driver through device manager which cause Vista to install the standard VGA adapter.

2. Used DriverCleaner to delete all Ati/etc related registry entries and files/folders.

3. Rebooted to normal Windows(hot fix that solved the issue can't be installed in safe mode) and installed the hotfix file.

4. Rebooted into safe mode again and installed latest Ati driver suite.....then rebooted into regular windows mode.

5. Voila. :D

Glad everything is fine now... a pc is virtually useless without a proper running gpu. :)

It was running ok before....insofar as that I could use the screen at the supported resolutions and such....I just couldn't use the graphical tweaking and overclocking features of the driver control application. Now I can. :)

Which hotfix? There are around 50 hotfixes for VC++ 2005 at Microsoft's site.
