lukaszthegreat: I'm sorry but what? Spinpoints are currently the best HDDs on the market. (normally priced. WD raptor is better and is twice the price per gigabyte)

lackoo1111: how about this ?
good for storage.

5400rpm. those green models have shit performance so i wouldn't recommend it for primary HDD.

lukaszthegreat: 5400rpm.
so, i have to find a HDD with 7200rpm

lukaszthegreat: Video Card: 4850 is old. It will run new games but on medium to low settings. Get 460 or 6850 if you can. Massive performance difference.
Honestly, I'm still running an 8800GS on one of my comps and it can handle even newer games nearly on medium, although I do only have a 20" monitor instead of 24". 4850 can definitely handle almost everything you throw its way unless you absolutely have to have maximum everything set up for new games. However, if you want some comprehensive comperative reviews on current graphics cards, check out here:

yes. i know that 4850 can run new games. I do have one myself.

It is old and outdated. If he is upgrading the system if he can upgrade the gpu too then he should. If not that's alright cause like i said 4850 can run new games.

OH
:D

funny how fast that guide became unreliable. release of 6000 series by ati really stirred up the gpu market. 460 can be dirt cheap. if they are not 6850 is better deal. 470 also went into mid tier price level.

and next month 6900 series will be released (the high end cards)

A lot of people are reporting failures very, even soon after purchase. I'm just not inclined to take chances on something like that. I'm not seeing it as any cheaper in this neck of the woods either. Not that price would sway me.

the same i would say about Seagate. Really didn't see any comments about spinpoint failures but i did see barracudas.

So no. i would not take my chance with seagate. so i got samsung. had F1 for over 2 years now.

Just few words from my perspective:
HDD: No matter space you need - it's always better to have double than single disc system. So it's better to buy 2x0.5TB than 1x1TB. If you are attached to specific company - buy 2 different models, if company doesn't matter - buy discs of 2 different producers. The greatest threat for HDD is hardware malfunction and with mass production if you get 2 HDDs from the same line - it's likely that they both will fail in the same time. I would recommend following strategy with HDD: because most HDD failures occur soon after purchase go buy your disc, use it for 3-4 months as additional disc with dispensable data. In those months try to do lots of disc operations and benchmark your new HDD frequently with Victoria. If you see it's quality is not lowering - you are safe to transfer your system to new HDD. Then go buy second one and repeat this procedure.
As for the model: I personally have been using Samsung F1 for almost a year now - fast, quiet , reliable - I'm very satisfied.

Sound Card: If you have integrated audio and just seek to have better sound - I would go for USED SoundBlaster - for example Audigy 2 ZS. It's cheap, produces decent sound and will give you ability to use SoundFont technology to sound MIDI much better.
Anyone own PowerColor videocard ? Is it good ?

They're not bad. They used to basically be like a little cheaper than other mainstream manufacturers. I've used them before in system builds and didn't have any problems with them. The last time I owned one of them personally was around Geforce 3 or 4 days.

The only thing I can think of negative in reference to them was around the ATI 9xxx days when they had a lot of fan failures early in product life - but this was years ago.

As with most anyone who manufactures goods today, it's hard to make a blanket statement about the quality of all their products. It's best to reference electronic manufactured goods nowadays at a micro level (like manufacturer, model no., version, etc.) and not just assume a manufacturer will always produce quality given how much is outsourced, contractually manufactured, etc. nowadays.
