andysheets1975: The big ones I guess would be Outlaws, the Red Dead games, and Desperadoes. Going farther back, you've got Gun.Smoke and Law of the West? I've never played Gun or Call of Juarez. Oh, and there's that Westerado game at the Adult Swim website.
Aha, I am thinking that perhaps this is the first time I have been interested in a game with a western setting and thus I am late to the partyerrhrrrmm rodeo. I need to reacquaint myself with AS.

andysheets1975: I'm slightly amused by the suggestion that there needs to be some kind of antidote or new twist to "all those" straight-on westerns that are killing the genre or something. I'm hoping this Kickstarter succeeds, though!
Hahaha give em a break, I'm going to chalk all that up to, 'lost in translation'. I think what they meant is that they simply want to do western with a twist.
This is reminding me a lot of the dark tower series, which if done right could be pretty damn cool. I hope this continues to progress if it is something like that. thanks!

evilnancyreagan: Honestly, with the exception of Red Dead Redemption and (to limited extent) anything steampunk flavored-- I really can't think of any significantly western-themed game, let alone A sinister, occult mashed-up variant.

It's not a prolific genre in video games, which is why I'm slightly amused by the suggestion that there needs to be some kind of antidote or new twist to "all those" straight-on westerns that are killing the genre or something. I'll toss in Dust: A Tale of the Wired West and Freddy Pharkas Frontier Pharmacist on the Adventure game front.

Wellp, I am not hip to the western jive, clearly.
Apparently John Romero would also like to see this game made.

That's a hell of an endorsement.
And this is why I hate kickstarter, my wallet has enough enemies as it is...
I missed this when it was first posted, but I came across it in my internet travels. I want to fund it, but GOG not mentioned anywhere has me leery. And just saying DRM-Free is not good enough, a lot of people think Steam is DRM-Free. So, until GOG is added my wallet will remain in my pocket. A shame because I really want a good Wild West RPG. I remember the fun I had with Law of the West on the C64 when I was kid.
Saw that a week ago, interesting game. Any turn based must plays? Other than Xcom.
Saw this browsing through Kickstarter and was tempted. But for the moment, I'm just starring it. I'll come back to it if it looks like it's getting funded.

Another new KS campaign that I think also looks interesting is Ray's the Dead.

The developers have expressed interest in having Hard West on GOG in the Kickstarter comments. Of course, they need GOG's approval to sell here. With that in mind, I have created a wishlist entry: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/hard_west

Also, on the FAQ they say there will be both a Steam and DRM-free version so clearly they understand it's not the same thing.

Voted on Wishlist, now I just have to decide to fund Hard West or take the lady out to a nice restaurant. Ah, Taco Bell has food, too, though I'll have to take care of the Hard South myself.

Voted, would like to see it here.
And pledged. Decided on plan C, PB&J sandwiches for lunch for the foreseeable future. Now I must decide am I Billy the Kid or Pat Garret. While Pat Garret lived to tell the tale, I'm not sure I like the cowardly way he gunned the Kid down and while supposedly being his friend.
