When 1 screen just isn't enough, they add the option of 4 more

As long as you have 4 more PS3s and 4 more copies of the game. Mow much work would this have taken to make and imagine how much they could have improved the shitty AI in that time!

While I have next to zero clue on the PS3, the answer for a PC would depend on how modular the display part of the software was to begin with, but should likely be 'not much', given the complexity of the tasks concerned. Multi monitor support is generally a lot easier than designing and programming advanced artificial intelligence.
Needing additional ps3s for multi-monitor support is the the most ridiculous implementation ever!
To be fair multi-monitor isn't the kind of thing you get on consoles much and with only the HDMI or the component out you've only got the one output source (pretty sure they're mutually exclusive). By the look of it they've created a multi-part distributed rendering environment thats really very clever but realistically how many people are ever going to have even 3 PS3s AND 3 copies of GT5 AND 3 HDTVs much less 5 of everything?
Heh, what a fantastic "feature". This kind of bullshit is the reason for which I think the gaming industry on its whole deserves ALL THE PIRACY PEOPLE CAN THROW AT IT....

The Forza series uses the same method. You System Link three 360s with three copies of Forza.
Only the most hardcore and wealthiest of fans would even consider this. For the vast majority, this functionality is utterly pointless. Why don't they fix the online matchmaking service instead?

Or the AI that seems only dimly aware of the existance of other cars and has absolutely no hesitation in trying to ram you

Well the AI has been like that for 13 years. If they haven't fixed it by now, they probably never will.

A few things jumped me watching this:
- really bad example for the usage of it. Didn't see even one time a passing of another car (or your own) which would put TVs 1+5 into use.
- no idea if the chick played the game before, but I wonder how much this setup actually distracts rather then improves the game from you visual point of view. Seemed more like a crash course for me.
- why adding a shifting gear stick, when they cruise with automatic gear?

All in all, nice tech demo but ridiculous with the need of not only 5 TVs but also 5 PS3s. Offer the chick with it and I might be interested though.

Or, they could consider making vehicle damage available from the outset instead of it unlocking it like some type of easter egg!

What's the point? The damage itself is very limited and doesn't affect car performance at all. They might as well have not added damage in at all like the previous 4 games.
If people have the money, then sure they can get enjoyment out of this. Five screens though , as you can clearly tell, is a far too much though for a person to process and work with.

Playing with 3 monitors regularly (or eyefinity, if you wish), I find the experience much more bearable. Playing F1 2010 or Dirt 2 is terrific.

This is good news for future consoles though, since they'll find a 'new' way to immerse you in the game.
