I just bought Gothic3 on disc. I went to see if there were any patches and there are so many I don't know which one to use. If you've played the game, can you tell me which is the best patch to fix the most bugs. There's official and community, but some say the new community patch messes things up so I don't know if I should just stick with the official. Please advise. Thank you.

Gothic games are the epitome of messed up games when they come out. I don't know for sure in this instance but I'd put my money on the community fixes, they'll tell you what official patches to apply first.
Yeah, the latest community patch should tell you which official patch to use first in the readme. And DO use the community patches, for Gothic 3 they are pretty much required.

Go for the latest Comunity Patch. This includes the last official patch so you don't need that as well as this. I don't know of any major issues with this version of the Community Patch, and either way it's certainly a less buggy and better performing experience than what you get with just the last official patch.

Thanks for your advice and letting me know that the comm patch includes the official patch.
Get the Community Patch indeed. It includes:

1) Tons of bugfixes.
That's a given.

2) Alternative AI.
I play with this enabled, but I haven't really played without it. When the game first came out, the AI was really crappy, i.e. a wolf would stunlock you to death etc, this gets rid of it. I'd recommend turning it on.

3) Alternative Balancing.
This changes skills a little and also changes the learning point cost of skills. It's supposed to make the game more challenging. Personally, I don't mind playing an overpowered character after a certain point so I don't use it, but it's your call really.

Enjoy, you're in for a hell of a ride! Gothic 3 is an amazing game!
You could also consider the quest pack 4.2 and the content mod 2.2.

Thanks for the info. Thats what I was worried about because some players have complained about the changes to AI and balance, but now I know that I have the option of turning it on/off. Thanks. I'm finishing up Chapter3 in Gothic1 right now, I fell in love with this game, so I'm buying the entire series.

Concerning Gothic1, I tried turning the bikini texture off on the women, so they will be nude like the German version, but its not working. Do you know how to do it? I bought the GOG version, so they may have changed it so you can't make the women nude.

Thanks for the suggestion. Can you tell me if the Quest Pack 4 also contains Quest Pack 1-3 or I have to download those separately. Also, have you played the Quest Packs? Are they any good or are they amateurish? Thanks.

Sorry, got no idea about that... I do have the GoG version but haven't played it, have only played my original CD version. Maybe try the forums at World of Gothic, people there can be rather helpful.

Oh and Gothic 3 is very different from I and II.
II is the best by the way. Incredible game.
Gothic 3, well initially I didn't even call it a Gothic game because it was so different. It took me some time, but I love it. Great, great game but very different from the prequels.
Avoid Gothic 4 like the plague. Utter garbage. Get Risen instead, it's the spiritual successor.

As far as I am aware, pack four contains all content from previous packs.

I haven't tried the QP or the CM, but I've been watching this let's play. He starts off with the 1.74 patch and adds the other two at the start of episode 7.

Two things I've noticed :

- experience is harder to come by
- factions are more active - you'll be attacked if you're wearing the armor of an opposition group.
