Fenixp: Oh you are completely correct, I'm terribly sorry about that. I have forgot to mention Nexus: The Jupiter Incident in the list of RTS games with better SP. And Homeworld, when we're there. And ... Oh god the list goes on! I'm really sorry about forgetting those, thanks for reminding me. :-P
Those two I've actually played, but I don't think they are comparable. It's like comparing Doom with Call of Duty. Only because it is roughly the same "genre" doesn't mean they both try to deliver the same experience.
Both Homeworld and Nexus are a lot more tactic games than your usual RTS. Especially Homeworld is anything but strategic because of the cheating AI. It was probably meant as a balancing issue, but why am I punished for being a successful player? And then there was that scrapyard level ...
But they are both excellent SP games. While Homeworld has the better atmoshphere (I think the word "oozing" might be fitting. The first few missions alone are worth the price of admission), Nexus has superior mechanics.
Still, all in all, SC 2 is the better fit in the discussion here. If only because of the better polish and better accessibility .
