Gundato: Well, in the US at least, a paperback tends to cost between 6 and 12 bucks (depends on the kind of paperback). And Amazon suggests about the same (minus one or two dollars) for the Kindle version of the book.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the idea (although, I hope Google's alternative takes off. Prefer to have cloud storage of all my books. Amazon tends to suck for letting you redownload digital stuff), it is just that I'll be paying about the same, but also having to buy a unitasker.

If I could get a multitasker (even just a kindle with the capacity to let me jot down notes using a stylus), it would be an instabuy.
Yeah, where it really shines is when you load it up with stuff from Gutenberg and Baen Free Press (they give away the digital versions of tons of their sci-fi, especially back catalogs), and oodles of other good, free stuff. You fill in with the odd digital purchase (figure out how to get the free gift cards if you buy from Amazon a lot) and you end up having tons to read. I bet you could load up 6 months of non-stop reading for free in the next 2 hours tonight.

Cloud storage for books is nice. I like the idea of a personal NAS (like a Synology) and hook it up to your free StrongSpace account (or whatever your favorite cloud storage is) just for your most critical files.

Yeah thats pretty damned awesome, its what, about 100000 free books or something? Sure most of them suck but there's some good stuff in there too.

We should be on a commission from Amazon for all this advertising...
