rtcvb32: No i didn't, but i have scanned my floppy for errors thinking it was my hard drive :P

My point was it's not as easy as you make it out to be. Sure if it all goes smoothly then great sailing, you're good. If not however...

There was a lot of nuances about the system's configuring and setup, how DOS worked, how the filesystem worked, hard drives, memory, Input & Output, DOS commands you had to know and understand what they did. Not to mention assembly language and the x86 specific chipset's opcodes.
Yes I know but that's what the Manuals were for!

Don't know about you, but they don't ship manuals with anything anymore. Some ship the manual on the CD (as a PDF), and of course if you had no OS to work with, you'd be SOL.

MS-DOS had a manual. Windows 95 did have a manual, although i don't ever recall reading it.

Besides, no one wants to look at a black command-line screen it seems anymore... Too unsophisticated or something...

I get paid to look at and work on black command-line screens as attached.
It's a screenshot from the main menu of 1 of our IBM System i systems.
IBM System i was previously known as eServer iSeries and before that AS/400.

So what? You can do many useful things in these 7 hours while it downloads FULLY AUTOMATICALLY. You don't have to sit in front of your PC and wait.

I don't work at a bank, but at an ICT company as a support employee.
As such amongst others I do some programming and system management.

It's Dutch, not Norwegian. Unfortunately to my knowledge I don't have access to a machine with an English version of the OS, so I can't attach a screenshot of that. Added translations to the previous screenshot.
Although it's the main menu, I don't use it much. We have our own environments with our own library lists offering us easy access to our own programs and tools.

I have little use for people that get really bent out of shape over things that - while perhaps correct or true - aren't of the "intensity" or seriousness to match the overreaction. What are they like if someone does some other minor thing - like maybe forget to rinse their dish before putting in the sink, or put the windshield washer back in the "wrong" bin or whatever. What are they like when a serious thing happens? Road rager? Good riddence I say... ;p
Galaxy truly is turning into some sort of update-delivering cargo cult. We'll see if the whole process will instantly turn flawless after its release.

But considering the guerrilla warfare some palette choices started after the proto-Galaxy-revamp of the site, I doubt people would show much unterstanding for shortcomings in something actually relevant.
