It’s been forever since we’ve done one of these, hasn’t it? Well. here we are again, putting the shoe on the other hand and asking you guys the questions.

The recent invading army of polar bears at the office predicated that we hire a polar bear wrangler to deal with them, and since he was here we also appointed him head of PR and Marketing (that would be TheEnigmaticT--he says hi if you haven’t met yet). Since new wrangler/PR guy started here, we’ve been kicking around some ideas about how we can better interact with you, our users. Currently, aside from the occasional appearance of blue text on the fora and one or two of us on #gog in IRC, we don’t reach out to our awesome community very much. We want to change that, but we also want to make sure we’re doing it in the way you guys and gals would like us to.

So we’re currently entertaining two ideas about how to build our community to even "awesomerer" levels. These are very much in the conceptual stage, so there’s no guarantee we’ll ever do either or both or something entirely different.

Thought 1: A monthly community news email. It would probably have a brief discussion of the new releases, call out some of the cool and informative threads that you guys have created.

Thought 2: A monthly video cast from us at GOG (The Cook and TheEnigmaticT show!), where we’d probably have content like some micro-reviews of our recent releases, some GOG Q&A, some updates of what we’ve been up to that’s cool, and long, lingering screenshots of the inside of a cardboard box.

Thought 3: Maybe you have an awesome thought three?

The question for you guys, then: If we did a newsletter, or a video cast, or sent out regular carrier pigeons to each of your houses, which would you most likely enjoy? And what kind of content would *you* like to see? As always, post your answers in this thread.
Be careful using a proxy site. If your work is anything like mine, they can monitor your bandwidth use and if you are using too much, look to see what you are doing. We have a policy of immediate dismissal for intentially evading security procedures (i.e. using workarounds like proxy sites)
On the topic of a newsletter:

A listing of all new bonus material and updated installers (with the date of the update) each month would be really nice, so those of us who already own the games can see what we should go check out, and to highlight games that others might check out.

Of course, the best solution for those who own the game would be to (also) have alerts emailed out or have a way to sort by last-update or something similar on our account pages. But listing those extras really might get a few more purchases from people who own the game in original format when the see in the newsletter that GOG has just added something neat!
A newsletter would be fine with me.
I would like to see the e-mail newsletter. Newsletters can be very informative, are great for people without fast connections and can even contain links for those who want any additional video junk that might be available. I really don't like gameplay video's and don't like watching or listening to people drone on when I can read the info much faster. Titled sections also make it easier to move past information that someone might not be interested in.
Do we really have to choose...? There is enough space for video podcast as well as for newsletter. As I see it newsletter would be best for “little news” like list of added extras, updated installation packages, fixes for games etc. – while in podcasts you could put “big news”: new releases, upcoming games etc.

I’m also happy to see blue post more often lately but Mr TheEnigmaticT could sometimes give some serious answers community is asking here, like: why there was no Interplay promo for so long, is there a way to put scans of boxes as gog extras, why there are no manuals included for AoW etc.

Keep also in mind that TECH SUPPORT is your most important information channel.
a live chat would be better over all of this
I think a newsletter of upcoming titles would be great.

Also I would LOVE LOVE LOVE you long time if Hero's quest series made it here.

Thanks
Chris
I think it would be best used to let us know what sales you have and what games have recently arrived. As soon as you get too in-depth, people's eyes glaze over.

When do people buy most of the stuff? When it's on sale. What is the coolest thing about your site? You get some random, awesome old game I've totally forgotten about. Use the newsletter (which I think is a good idea, as long as it is concise and not filled with op-ed crap) strictly as a mechanism, to inform your customers about sales and new product. That's it.

This site is strictly commerce, please don't lose focus of that. As soon as you start branching out into weird socialization of video games, you're missing the point. Keep getting awesome games, and keep informing us when they go on sale.

Thanks,
Peri
