Just a curiosity, some games I've downloaded have the usual orange CD icon, but just as many do not, just giving me the generic windows program icon.

Is it just me? or this is a normal thing and/or something derpy about Windows? They all verify and install just fine and it's silly really, but I find that little missing icon makes some games feel superfluously 'incomplete'.

Which games do not have the icon? So far, I don't recall any not having, unless of course you mean the .bin files.
I could check in a few hours when I'm at home, or someone else may be able to tell you in the meantime.
Yeah, I noticed this too and wondered about it. When I download the installer the orange icon always shows up in my browser, but on my harddrive it is sometimes missing and I see this standard icon of a windows application.
All installers have icons, but on WinXP they may not show for large files.
ReynardFox, it's the second time when you have a problem with GOG, and it's the second time it's not the problem with GOG but with your PC :P

For a larger files it may take a while until the icon shows up. Sometimes it doesn't show up, because AV scanner is scanning the file for viruses and is blocking the file until the AV guard checks it's fine.

Oh in this case, I wasn't doubting it being a potential problem with my PC, but given it's again a problem I've never experienced with non GOG files, it's understandable why I'm asking here. ;)

Ah, yes It does seem to be anything over 300mb that's iconless, and I am on WinXP, could you please tell me why this happens? Is there anything I can try or should I just forget about it?

It's OS limitation, I'm afraid. But nothing to worry about ;)

That's fine, I'm just a little obsessive-compulsive about neatness amongst my files. Thanks. :)

Thanks, Thiev! I've often wondered what was happening, especially since the files always validated. Silly old XP :p

That's a bit harsh. It's a reasonable question with a straightforward answer. He wasn't blaming GOG or even really complaining.
By the way, I'm on Windows XP SP3 and I don't have a problem with lack of icons. Sometimes it takes a while until icon shows up, though.
