[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/personal_nightmare]Personal Nightmare, a supernatural horror adventure from Horrorsoft (you have to know how to make horrors with a name like this) will chill you to the bones with a 60% discount for the next 24 hours.

A strange letter from your father, a pastor of a small village, makes you return to your old family home, only to find that he is missing and all the townsfolk are unwelcoming and acting odd. Soon you discover that evil forces have taken over the village and you need to find a way to stop this madness. Personal Nightmare is definitely an old Gem (1989) but not a rusty one. Although you cannot expect too much flare from graphics and sound, once you get sucked into the storyline and chilling atmosphere, expect some decent scares and a wicked twist.

This is a game for both horror enthusiasts and adventure fans. An oldie but a goodie from the GOG.com collection, Personal Nightmare is highly recommended for only $2.39 until 10.59 AM GMT on 3 May 2012.
Considering that GOG's catalogue is growing I think it should have a Gem promo at least twice every week

I understand that the promos are for the games which get less attention but you can't put those kind of games on every single time
Yay; finally a gem promo for something I want and don't have.

Or at very least, every week instead of every other week.
This reminds me, GoG need to secure the Elivra games from Horrorsoft too.
I tried it briefly and came to the conclusion that adventure games from that era are just too dated for my tastes.

Having played more modern adventure games, this just felt old.

Imho, the discounted price should be the regular price.

Apparently I've bought this game from some earlier promo.

Skit, I didn't realize the game is THAT old (early 1989)! Does the PC version even have any sound card support, or only buzzer sounds? Maybe the Amiga version would be the one to play...

tburger: Am I mistaken or this is the only game on GOG without ANY extras ?
Depends on if you consider the game manual and reference card as "extras". Splinter Cell only contains those. I haven't verified, but most games have those on the game media in addition to the physical version. IMHO those items are mandatory and not really "extras" ,but I imagine some will disagree.

I'll add that I don't buy games for the extras, and rarely consider them to be a bonus (not a fan of wallpapers, icons, etc...) But, I like the thought of added value. Soundtracks that weren't on disc, extra game content, etc. are a big hit with me.

There's a typed two-page PDF "manual" with game instructions inside the game directory, if that counts as extra. :)

I wouldn't expect any sountracks either, because the game seems to be mostly silent on PC, as it has no sound card support as far as I can tell. There's some badly digitized laughter in the intro though.

I'll have to see if I ever get to play it properly. Quite old-school with EGA graphics, I'd probably prefer to play the Amiga version instead, but who knows, maybe the story is great or sumting.

tburger: I'll skip. Don't like horror games.

Manhole has diddly-squat also, and a significant more only have manuals (I think).

Ok., I agree that it’s hard to call manual or reference card as ‘extra’. For me it’s as important as the game itself but I was referring rather to the fact that on game-page there is NOTHING – not even those mandatory ‘extras’.

So at least there is a manual – only not mentioned on game-page.

Manhole too…Never noticed that. Thx.
Ok, voted!

Real Myst and Teenagent.
Buying so I don't feel guilty ;-) when playing the Amiga version. Still, I must agree with spindown as well. This game is not a gem. Elvira would be though, if only GoG could license it.
Elvira must be a licensing minefield because there are more companies involved with rights. All games based on TV or movies tend to have that problem.
BTW: Elvira has a nice way of copy "protection" in the form of a manual that could only be read properly if a red strip of a particular hue was laid down on it.
@grviper: thanks for the suggestion!

Christ, this game sucks almost as badly as Waxworks does. Just save yourselves the trouble and watch a longplay on Youtube.
I bought this game; not because I think I'm going to enjoy it, but because I apparently have some form of mental illness that forces me to check out every horror game I can, no matter how unpromising. This particular one sounds like everything I don't like about adventure games rolled into one horrible ball; at least it was cheap.

jorlin: Elvira would be [a gem].
Only because of her epic boobage. (So really, she would fit right in with GOG marketing techniques. ;)
