Hello,

I bought VMware Fusion and installed Windows 7. Now I thought, I could play some GOG games which are for windows. The installation works fine.

Now I tried two different games. The first one is Empire Earth. When I start the game, I see the loading screen and then the intro should follow, but the game crashes and Windows encountered an error. Is this a general problem? Do I other programms to run this game?

The second game is Settler 3 Ultimate Edition. Here I can start a game, but the loading screen before the game doesn't go away. So I can say start, but I can't actually play. Here I don't know what could cause this fault.

As some kind of test, I installed Age of Empires 2 from a CD and this game works perfect.

DirectX 9 support in VM Ware (Be it Fusion on Mac or Player on Windows) is not really an "exact" science, while compatibility has improved tremendously since the beginning there is no guarantee that a game will work.

I did some test a while ago and I got very mixed results with some games working perfectly, other working with graphical glitches and some not working at all. You can find here a compatibility list, not sure how up to date it is though : https://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-1287

Oh. Both games are in the list for "not working games" :(. Is there a possibility to increase the support of DirectX9 or the work around DirectX9?
Try Wine, or rather Winebottler. While your purchase of Fusion is of little use with Wine, at least the latter is free so you lose little in seeing if it works.

Sadly there is not a lot you can do. You can always hope that a new version of Fusion/Player will be more compatible. You can try Virtual box too (it's free), but usually VMWare compatibility is much better.

VMWare are supposed to release VMWare workstation 11 in December, along with VMWare Player 7, so normally they should update Fusion around that time too. If you are lucky maybe your two problematic games will work then.

While the VM solution is the most convenient and elegant, nothing beat using bootcamp if you want the best compatibility.
