I know this has come up in the past to an extent.

I'd like to request that there be a feature added so that if one gifts a code for a game that the recipient already has that they can redeem it for any game of the same price.

It definitely should be optional, but for practical reasons it would be nice for those gifting codes randomly in the forum to be able to offer a fallback game of the recipients choosing.

Also, it would be really appreciated to allow people to gift a code that's redeemable for a game of a specific price.
Seconed!
But it's even better if the person could still pick something else even if (s)he doesn't has it.
I don't know what people like -_-"
It'd be nice, but they'd probably have to limit gift exchanging to full-price games. Otherwise, what would stop people from buying gift codes during sales for games they already have, then redeeming them for any other game on the site? (Of course, this will still run into complications - just guess how many "ZOMG Why can't I get any other game with this code? I did it before! GOGSUXBBQ!" threads would pop up.)
I think your other idea would be more reasonable, and more desired - so if I want to gift Hedwards a game by surprise, for example, I wouldn't need to know what games he already has, or what games he has on his wish list.

On the other hand, putting on my business cap I see the immediate issue with the 'gift card' idea - with all other existing game sales, once you give GOG your money, they know exactly how it's split up. $X goes to partners, $Y goes to GOG. If you buy a wildcard gift code, your cash effectively goes into abeyance - and GOG can't get it's $Y (or $(Y+1), or $(Y-1), depending on the contract for that game) until it's actually used.

Thats not really an issue. I don't think there would be anything wrong with them holding the full amount of money from a gift card until its used then working the balances out.

people wont give and get just gamecodes and just let them sit there. eventually they will be used so everyone will get their share.

second, the solution would be being able to send a gift code with it being store credit here so people can buy a game of their choice. and discounts wont interfer.

I don't think it could works with a code for a specific game (if that's what you where getting at I'm not sure), but vouchers redeemable for those price points would be cool.

ya instead they should just sell vouchers for 5.99 and 9.99 , which can be used to get any game at that price

That's a good point. That would be pretty disruptive to the site's profitability. I suspect the easiest way of dealing with that would be to just grey out the option with a note that it's not available for games on sale.

hedwards: gift a code that's redeemable for a game of a specific price.

Actually, there's already a rather similar feature implemented (promotion codes), but so far it seems to be restricted to GOG staff handing out these codes on special occasions. I can't see why it should be that difficult to adjust, given that most of the source code should be valid and working already.
That is why I requested this earlier as well (though with less positive community resonance :p)
