Hello fellow gog'ers,

A while ago i was in a topic which i can't find anymore about securom. In that topic somebody gave me a solution to installing/ running games with securom without using securom or without using no cd patches. I am not talking about torrenting but being able to play older (bought) games with securom on newer systems. Has anybody any idea what that solution could be?
Bypassing of any kind is likely considered as reverse engineering which is against game creators' EULA so you might as well use a no co patch. Any reason in particular why you would be against a no cd patch if you already paid for the game?

no reason, but the solution I am looking for was actually remarkably easy. Stupid of me that I forgot...
Maybe by making a disc-image and loading it from a virtual drive?

Yeah aside from that, maybe this. http://forum.daemon-tools.cc/f40/yasu-1-6-9040-released-23591/
Alcohol52% should be able to create a working copy for older versions of SecuROM
Just out of curiosity, which games are causing problems with SecuROM? I've had a number of games with early versions of SecuROM copy protection (Incoming, Forsaken, Populous: The Beginning) that work fine on Windows 7 (well, Incoming didn't work all that well, but that was nothing to do with the copy proc.

SafeDisc and StarForce are of course a different kettle of fish altogether, but the disc versions of SecuROM have proven to be surprisingly robust (aside from Sony DADC's bizarre later decision to claim that Daemon Tools was somehow incompatible with the software).
I think that up to version 5, you could make a CD image with Clone CD that worked in Daemon Tools. There are also the so-called mini-images.

SafeDisc were fine up to version 2. After that, different story. SarForce/Tages - unghh....not much to do,. except the no-cd (i have the POP: Warrior Within and POP: The Two Thrones, games that had StarForce and i used a no-cd on my legally bought copies)
YASU, Daemon Tools, Alcohol... I'm sure a small detail breaks EULA one way or another. I would just get a no cd patch.

What game(s) are you having problems with?

no since it had nothing to do with disc images since I tried using that a few years ago and couldn't get it to work for some reason... didn't want to try it since....

Hmm you could be right actually...I said securom but maybe it was starforce. I should check that...

I had issues in the past with The suffering - ties that bind. And since i want to replay it this week I remembered there was a solution. I just couldn't remember what the solution was...

I was wondering the same thing as the OP, and I also wanted to ask if anyone knows if installing the Origin client installs SecuROM. And I have heard that SecuROM can mess up one's computer, but how? What are some of the things that it could do to your computer? Thank you.

EA has lied in the past about the Origin client using SecuROM, claiming it did not when in fact it did.

Starforce was the one that supposedly damaged computers. It was never proven, but never exonerated, either.

SecuROM does disrupt operation of certain DVD drives, but I do not believe reports of actual damage are credible. If you have a susceptible DVD drive, and have to reformat to get rid of SecuROM, however, that is cold comfort.

Thank you for the info. The risks of SecuROM are making me not want to get The Sims 2 from Origin, even though it's free right now. Not worth the risk, I think.

At least for one game it's really easy, in Fallout 3 (retail) you can just not use the default launcher (after setting the graphic options) by either using Fallout3.exe directly or use an alternate launcher Like what can be found on http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/?

There's also ImDisk, although it's free and mounts virtual disks not sure how SecuRom will work with it.

There's also PowerISO which i have few problems with and offers a few good options.
