I've played the demo of geneforge and I'm really interested in the games. What DRM does Steam have on the geneforge games (DRM free)? Some games, like Machinarium, allow you to play them from a link in the game folder and do not require you to run steam to play them. Are the geneforge games like this?

There's no DRM free with Steam, as Steam itself is DRM. :p

Didn't experienced anything else then the steam client. No activation, game worked flawless in offline mode...

Some non-3D games can be easily copied out of Steam folder, backed up and run on their own.

Curious about Geneforge DRM, too.

Geneforge needs Steam to be running (the client). Else it will display an error message.
Best thing to do is just download the demo of the game you want and purchase an unlock code from Spiderweb and no need for Steam to be involved.

In principle I concur, but 16 Bucks for all Geneforge games on Steam is just a steal.
Only the Steam version needs the Steam client, you're free to buy it from Spiderweb Software itself and there is no DRM. It'll cost you an extra 5-10 bucks, though.

Yeah, but Steam....and DRM. OK, it is a steal...I can't fight against basic economics :P
Best thing to do is wait for the Holiday Sale and buy the whole pack from Steam for $5.

That's what I thought. I wish I could afford to buy all 5 games from the Spiderweb site, I just can't really afford it. I have to save a little bit of money in case the other indie royale bundles contain games that I just can't pass up.

Kind of an off topic question, but if you start the steam client in offline mode, is there any way to prevent it from automatically minimizing itself into the system tray?
He might redo his annual October sale in December (he did last year) and I recall getting the compilation set from him so it wasn't nearly as expensive.

Still, Steam is cheap, his games do deserve playing for those that enjoy them. He loves it when you love his games.

I know :D Normally I'd rather have bought directly from Spiederweb. But the Steam price was just too tempting.
