Campy power you're supplying - it's electrifying!

Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure, a modern take on the classic series in which the iconic PI returns with amnesia and a handsome amount of glorious FMV camp, is available 60% off for Windows and Mac OS X on GOG.com. That's only $7.99 for the next 24 hours!

The year is 2050. The place: New San Francisco. Someone has made sure that our rough-around-the-edges hero has forgotten the events of the last seven years. What appears to be the world's worst hangover is just the beginning of Tex's troubles as he tries to recollect just what the hell happened. Stuck in a maze of unsolved murders and hidden agendas, Tex must solve the mystery of his own past and that of the lost technologies of Nikola Tesla. Can Tex regain his memory in time to restore what's been lost and stop a terrifying future?

If you have a hankering for old-fashioned FMV with a modern flavor, sleuthing while dropping some pithy one-liners, then look no further than Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure, available 60% off for Windows and Mac OS X. That's $7.99 until Thursday, August 7, at 9:59AM GMT.
Gals and guys? GOG employees? Sit down, I think we need to talk... It's not you, it's m-wait, I mean, it's you. These constant great deals are making my wallet all anorexic. I don't think she can take much more. Could you please do old recycled deals for the rest of the month, just so she doesn't die from malnutrition? ;_;

Ah, who am I kidding, you're all awesome! Bring on the next deal, I don't really need to eat every day ;)

Leroux: I somewhat liked the hint system in Hector -Badge of Carnage. IIRC it was free but each time you used it the game would tease and insult you, hurting your pride. :D

Huinehtar: Ha! Nice way to "hint" indeed!
It would be even better if you'd get a chance to vent by insulting the game back after a really stupid solution has been revealed to you. ;)

Another system I like is the one from Severance/Blade of Darkness. Granted, that's not a P&C adventure and what I mean is not about puzzles and hints, but I think it also demonstrates how you can try to make a game fun for everyone without frustrating anyone or compromising anything. The game allows you to save as often as you want, but your rating will decrease the more often you do it. That rating doesn't affect the game itself and to my knowledge you don't get any disadvantages from a bad rating. The only thing the rating affects is the pride of competitive players. Usually, I'm not a very competitive player myself, but I still felt encouraged by this system to take on the challenge and keep savescumming to a minimum, even though it doesn't really matter.

Interesting indeed, I'm not a competitive player anymore too but now I am a bit curious of how it is ;-)
At least, it's not like saving in Ishar :D
