Decide the fate of Ancaria!

Sacred Gold and Sacred 2 Gold, a tag team of old-school-at-heart action-RPGs with plenty of combat, tons of epic loot, and an engaging struggle between darkness and light, are available 75% off on GOG.com for the next 24 hours!

In Sacred Gold you are given the choice of one of eight character classes including a Dark Elf, a Gladiator, and a Vampire Lady among others. Each hero starts from a different location, has its own quests and skills, but all share a common goal: to save the fantasy world of Ancaria from the evil necromancer Shaddar. The Gold edition includes all improvements added in Sacred Plus and the Sacred Underworld expansion, which added two new characters and new quests that follow the final events of the original Sacred.

Sacred 2 Gold, set two millenia before the epic events of the original Sacred, allows you to hack 'n' slash your way through a vast world full of foes of all shapes and sizes. The amount of weapons and armor you'll have at your disposal is mind-boggling. With plenty of choices between following the light or shadow campaign quests, an addictive leveling system, and multiple character races considerably affecting playing styles Sacred 2 delivers on its promise of hours upon hours of fast-paced fun. Acting as a prequel to the original game, Sacred 2 Gold Edition comes packed with bonus content, including the awesome Ice and Blood expansion adding new regions, a new playable character, and countless new items.

Get this fantastic duo of aRPGs both 75% off! The promo lasts until Tuesday, December 30, at 10:59AM GMT.

EndreWhiteMane: By all of your comments it sounds as if I just buy one of them it should be 2?

vanchann: Sacred 1 was a big step forward in its time and it still is a good game. Gold Edition includes the Underworld expansion, which unfortunately has badly designed areas, but it still adds two new characters for the main campaign.

Sacred 2 implements all the modern aRPG mechanics and has better graphics. There is a higher quality texture pack, that came with the collector's edition of the base game, but it isn't included in GoG's version.

I suggest to play both games.
If you have to choose only one though, I think the second one is the best choice.
Thanks! ;)

deonast: What no Sacred 3 ;P

Took a look at the steam page, lots of negative reviews basically because it isn't like the other games. I wonder how it would have rated it they didn't use the sacred name, would it stand on it's own ok?
Well, take a Gear-Hunting game and take away the loot. Sounds like a good idea to you? =)

jadeite: How are the chances of getting the german version of Sacred 1?
Thanks for mentioning it, I didn't even realize the German version was missing. :(

I was considering to buy the game here again, even though I already own the Steam version and it doesn't run that well on Win 8, so I'm sceptical whether GOG really managed to fix the compatibility issues. But the thing I liked most about the game was the funny German goblin speech. Which is weird, since I played the Steam version in English, so it might have been an installation error, but that could mean they're absent from the English GOG version ...

Do the goblins in the GOG version talk English or (German) gibberish?
One day I will enjoy Sacred 2. I always felt so overwhelmed in that game.
Need more Deep Silver games, like Metro Redux

(It's possible Strategy First still has some games worth bringing, but I don't know as most of their reputation seems to now lie with shitty games on Steam...)

The game is huge and I believe there's over 600 side quests and most of them really simple kill X, save Y or fetch Z item. Yet for some reason I always felt connected to this world, played the first and second game for hundreds of hours.

If anyone plans to play the sequel I highly recommend this community patch. I also recommend to check out that forum, Darkmatters. The experts of these games are one of a kind; very helpful and have an extreme amount of knowledge of the games.

Discussed just a little earlier in the thread. :)
Looking forward to giving these a try. I enjoy ARPG games, though I usually get bogged down somewhere and end up just loot farming till I get pulled into another game rather than finishing out the storyline. Hopefully these ones will keep me engaged enough with the story to keep me motivated even while finding fun loot :-)
TinyE and Grargar:

TinyE mentioned something about fully zoomed out problem in #1 in fps. I may be confused, but I took that to mean that in Sacred 1, fully zoomed out, TinyE was having a problem with frames per second.

I'm not aware of this problem. Could either of you elaborate? My recollection was that there was always a mild stutter when you went fully zoomed out, but I did find playing with the Wood Elf (sorry forget the actual class name) still workable and she hits everything she aims at. This was on an older XP computer.

I do know that Sacred 1 in any fashion no longer seems to work with an Intel HD 2500 gpu, there are constant artifacts, but that is supposedly an incompatibility with the way their chip and drivers work with Sacred 1. Supposedly one may be able to get around it by using some directx 9 dlls or something out of Wine which emulates Windows on Macs OS. A shame really because otherwise it runs plenty fast on an Intel HD 2500.

Was the fps problem when fully zoomed out merely when you moved and panned or all the time? Were you still able to hit accurately?

In my experience it never really impacted gameplay, from a technical POV, but it lowers FPS and some (like me) prefer to have a high FPS to have a lag free experience.

I suppose if you have fully zoomed out and then use spells that show off fancy graphics and meet a lot of enemies that does it as well you'll notice it far more clearly then merely comparing standing still or walking around.

It is a problem that has been noticed on Windows 7 PCs and higher and I wouldn't say it's necessarily minor, as it makes the game significantly less smooth.

it is not only the problem of the "sacred" name
as a beat them all, it is very poor: boring, coop and multiplayer combos are a tasteless joke, the "forced humor" in the dialog and game is just awful even regarding lame/poor humor standards, character customization 'look and skills) is close to zero......

really even if you remove "sacred", it is still a lame game.

it is the first game that ever made me eject the game disc and shut down my x360 in rage not even wanting to play on any further while i always try to finish every game i get there... i was afraid it was the first time i ever resorted to give up frustrated like this.

btw i got both games but it is a cool promo, both games are good, at their release time and even nowadays too.
Obligatory epic Sacred song. I absolutely loved coming across it in Sacred 2. Time to replay them both! :D

Roxolani: I really want this promo but: No Money No Sacred! :(

Oops ... Thanks! So I guess I'd get exactly the version I'm used to then. :)

That leaves only the question of whether the other voices in the German version are just as funny and better than the English ones or whether it wouldn't make a big difference, and whether the GOG version really runs smoothly on Win 8. Then again, since it's officially supported, I guess I could ask for a refund if it doesn't. Nice.

I'll make sure I tick the "not interested" button on sacred 3 in steam so I don't grab it by mistake some time in the future. Sacred (Gold) is one of the few games I've managed to dedicate enough time to finish. I quite enjoyed it years ago, though I now forget the details. I own both on GOG having replaced my disk edition a while back.
