Time of the infamous.

Quest for Infamy, a modern retro adventure tribute to Sierra's seminal Quest for Glory series is available on GOG.com 50% off. That's only $9.99 for the next 24 hours!

Quest for Infamy is more than a tribute, actually. It's a love letter to the questing adventure games of yore, and a no-holds-barred, tongue-in-cheek parody at the same time. For starters, your hero is real scoundrel looking for easy coin and free ale. The more you get to know Mr. Roehm, the more you see him for what he really is: a sarcastic bastard. Stuck in a sealed-off valley, in the middle of a power struggle between various factions, you will need to use your wits and blade, to keep your head. With branching paths, detailed pixel art graphics, and great voice acting, prepare for a real feast of retro-adventuring.

If you're feeling it has been too long since the last time you went on a point-and-clicking quest, accept the challenge of the Quest for Infamy, for only $9.99, until Thursday, Ocotber 16, at 9:59 AM GMT.

HunchBluntley: I've the never played the PC version (of the remake, that is), but played it (almost) to the end on the PS2. (I got to see the "bad" ending and the -- for lack of a better term -- "give up" ending, but was never able to beat the final boss to get what I would assume to be the "good ending".)

Blackthorne519: Don't apologize! I appreciate it; I love playing games as well as making them! I've heard several people talk about The Bard's Tale since QFI came out, and I never realized until then that there was a new game. I loved the old ones back in the day, for sure.

They have The Bards Tale 2004 on GoG here, so I may just pick that up!

Some people seem to really dislike the new Bard's Tale, some people seem to like it. Personally, I found the gameplay itself a *little* boring, but fun enough to keep going to the end (I suspect that a lot of people have played much more fun hack and slash games - I don't have a lot of experience with them) but I did really enjoy the main character's humour. I found it a nice change from the standard very serious trying to save the world stuff.
