Everyday magic.

Always Sometimes Monsters, a story-focused real-life adventure dealing with the everyday choices and their consequences, rather than epic fantasy, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only *$4.99 for the next 24 hours.

Always Sometimes Monsters is a title designed for a mature gamer who isn't afraid to face his fears and problems that reflect what we're dealing with each day in the real world. You'll be faced with racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, mental health, sexual assault, child abuse, animal abuse, drug abuse, and suicide. Every choice you make affects the virtual (yet lifelike) world and affects the protagonist and the people you'll meet on your path. You may find yourself struggling with every decision, but the outcome--whatever it turns out to be--has the potential to feel like katharsis.

Play the game of choices and see how your life unfolds in the everchaging world of Always Sometimes Monsters. Grab it now, on GOG.com, for only *$4.99! The 50% discount offer lasts until Thursday, November 6, at 10:59AM GMT.

Vythonaut: I see.. Didn't know that these pawn shops buy everything - in my town (at least), the only thing they buy is gold & jewellery.. although maybe I'm mistaken as I haven't visited any of them. :-)
In my town, they'll buy anything electronic related for about 10% of its current value. This includes computers, consoles, music and game discs. Then they turn around and sell it for 33 to 75% of its current value. I think most will haggle though, its not like a retail store. Most are reputable, although some are less so, and will take stolen items. Although if they're less sure its legit, they'll want you to 'pawn' the item, which means they'll give you a percentage of the cut when they sell it. I guess that's a bit like the consignment shops we have around here. So when the cops reclaim the stolen item, they'll be out nothing at all (and the cops will know where to contact the guy).

Even the video game stores are into buying and selling games, but AT BEST they'll give you $20 for a $60 AAA month old game, and then turn around and sell that same game for $55.

TL;DR Pawn shops and game stores make money for themselves - at your expense. Caveat Emptor / Caveat Venditor.

No Linux... no joy. :(

deonast: That kind of leads into JudasIscariot answer. Pawn shop. You could take the present there and then have some money for the game, buy a copy for the girlfriend and both problems are solved.

Not hard to tell why I'm single :)

Kunovski: that's another issue/great thing about having one - very little time to play games so there's no point in buying new ones :D
Must be a new thing. Give it 5 years to a decade and you'll find you have some gaming time again: not as much as when you were single, but definitely more than when the relationship was brand new.

And you shouldn't.

I think finding a companion with whom you can be for the remainder of your life and stay sane is a higher priority.

Depending on your temperament, this can be harder than it seems.

I dated a couple of young things before finding the right one and they were such indecisive wishy-washy things with silly ideas, it drove me bonkers.

JudasIscariot: Probably a pawn shop :)

Yeah, back in the day, WAY before Pawn Stars and the like, pawn shops would buy nearly everything. Had one where I lived in Florida and it was almost like a benign version of the shop in Needful Things :) It was ran by an older gentleman and his wife and I found the first Black Sabbath album on tape in that pawn shop.

The reason I say it looked like a shop from Needful Things is because it wasn't some super slick operation with all those glass counters but a slightly dark mysterious place where there were all kind of things, some junk, some treasures, to be found :)

Thats so true. I want to know who is buying those preowned games at a $5 discount. Why not just pay the extra $5 for a new one?
Picked up and will try when I have time.

PincushionMan said that the shop owners are open to haggling.. If that's true, i think this is the reason for such a high price. He tells you $55 but for you only $50, then you tell him that $10 discount is too little and it is better to buy the new one, then again he tells you $45 & convinces you that with the extra $15 you can buy a lot games in GOG's future insomnia promo!!!! :-D

So you walk away with practically a new game (assuming it is the previously mentioned one month old $60 AAA game) having payed only $45 and the shop owner just made $25. Win-win! :-)

deonast: Work is what takes away my gaming time.
Same here. I look at what my time commitments are, and keep coming back to that one.

Need to find a way to work half the time for the same or slightly-less pay. That will do WONDERS to eliminating my to-do list.

Yep, I get paid a pretty hansom wage per hour, unfortunately averages down a bit as I have too many unpaid hours on the clock now. 160 hours unpaid excess on the time clock at the moment with drops off every 3 to 4 months. Just think of the gaming time.
