from what i heard fable 2 and 3 have about the same amount of story as fable 1, and that was about ZERO ;)

i mean really, there where NO twists and turns, it was just straightforward, with the game throwing things in your way, there is about one twist that you kniw when the game starts, no buildup to anything, and the ending is really dumb

yeah it was fun, but fable isnt something you play for story :)

but as i said, i only played through 1, and maybe i heard wrong things about 2 and 3, but after that nothingness of story i cant imagine that somebody did care to make something better ^^

I've played all the Fables (working my way through 3), yeah, there is a story but it's pretty mediocre. You play it for the silly gags and for people who have a compulsive need to collect stuff, even virtual stuff.
i stilll disagree, not even mediocre (cant tell first hand for 2 and 3)

but yeah i am not arguing about the game being fun :)
While they aren't on the level of say KotOR2 or PST for me, I happen to love the stories of Fable 2 and 3. Fable 3 has this nice little grey twist about three quarters of the way through the game. While the twist isn't earth shattering, I liked it since it brought up a lot of questions for me. I'd explain more but that's spoiler-tastic. :P I also liked the fact that the main character now has an actual voice. Brought a very nice storytelling angle since the Fable series isn't like our cRPGs where you can select various lines of dialogue to be what you say. Fable 2 I really loved the story in it.

Blah blah blah I love Fable. I tend to ramble a lot about series that I love. :P
When I hear "genious story", two games immediately come to mind :

1. Star Control II / Ur-Quan Masters

2. Planescape Torment

Other game with great stories :

Ultima VII, esp U7 Serpent Isle
Freespace I and II
Arcanum
Morrowind
Albion

Some of the list here are more "cool" games than "genious stories".
I'll pick ones that weren't mentioned.
Console:
Final Fantasy: Tactics. I am a sucker for political intrigue and medieval Catholic church style oppression and this story nails it without going too overboard on the super natural stuff.

PC:
Longest Journey: An adventure game that handles adult themes that are usually taboo very nicely and has a really deep story that is strongly influenced by art (the protagonist being an art student isn't a give away at all :p).
Bioforge was pretty awesome and far out.

Also i enjoyed the thief and assassin guild quest/storylines in oblivion quite a bit.

Trying to remember a game where getting to know the next turn of events was my motivation to keep playing but finding it hard. I came up with wingcommander 1 :P

Lately games that let me experience through atmosphere and activating my own imagination like Stalker and Amnesia the dark decent seems to have made a bigger impact on me than lots of story spoon feeding.
Well, Jade Empire I must say. It has one of the best twists. Even better that the KotOR one.

Original war has a decent too, well it's based on the classic german scifi novel.

And yeah, I workin on some heavy story driven games so... wait a year or two. :-D
