Lionel212008: One that has been ignored

Sin

1)the protagonist is a lot like duke nuke'em

And I might take the liberty of adding kingpin (looks damn good for a game on the quake 2 engine), postal 2, any of the unreal games, quake 2 and even solider of fortune to an extent.

One obscure title that I would like to add is Nosferatu - not a master piece by any measure but has enough atmosphere and B-movie camp to make it enjoyable. However this might be one title that is difficult to track down.

Also, as a rule of thumb any shooters based on the quake 3 engine should work well on a dated system such as return to castle wolfenstein and games like the original call of duty or medal of honor:aa could also work if ww 2 shooters are your thing or you might stick to the more old school ones

Some other games would be undying(beautiful horror game based on the unreal engine) - I can't recommend this one enough
I would also go for sin. It's about as close as you can get to duke nukem (next to shadow warrior). It's not with aliens though but with some mutants.
I loved SiN, I bought SiN episodes (shame it never continued) and it had a patched version of the first game included free, which was handy.

Kingpin had a great atmosphere, found it a bit on the "hard" side, but a great game.

Painkiller is just awesome.

Requiem: Avenging Angel had some awesome spells.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Requiem:_Avenging_Angel

I enjoyed Wheel of Time back then as well

I liked the sin episode a lot too but there was (IMO) one big problem with it. It was more half-life 2 then it was SIN. At least to me. Still a lot of fun though (let''s be honest if you say it is to much like half-life 2, it can't be that big of a problem)
Doom 1 and 2 are very similar to Duke 3D
Eradicator, I've only played a little bit of it, but it's pretty interesting.
