hedwards: People bitch about UAC, but I've never found it to be that annoying. Developers should really put their shit in the right directory, then it would be even less of an issue.
Maybe... People got used to having admin access in 95/98, so had no regard to what API's they could call.
The format C: command? Sure! Two files having full access to the same file? Sure! Replace files in the Windows Directory with custom calls? Sure! Download software and install without asking? Sure! Many of the popular programs weren't planned ahead with when those accesses would go away.
Reminds me of this video Also there seems to be some hidden flags in the FS, where one determines if the file came from an external computer/source which automatically makes it ask you if you really wanted that. '
You just downloaded program xxx and are trying to run it, was that what you wanted?'. Course if you lower the UAC down to where it won't complain to you, it occasionally wants confirmation but that's rare... usually installing a game...
Curiously those problems aren't on Linux... Neither are viruses (
there's like, 6 viruses? And if you run a virus on linux it can only really affect your own personal files and not the OS unless you're running as admin which you never should).
