Personally I quite like where the UK is now at (when the system works how it's supposed to and isn't subject to internal protests). Essentially, BBFC ratings are considered legally binding (these are supposed to be replaced by PEGI ratings at some point).

Retailers are legally obliged to enforce these ratings. So sale to those under age is illegal. Which means that ultimately parents have a far greater degree of control over what their kids have access to. It's all very well saying that it's all down to the parents to monitor their kids 24/7, but that's not realistic by anyone's standards and would only lead to a very unhealthy authoritarian childhood.

Society itself needs to be restrained, as we all know that many companies have no scruples when it comes to targeting kids.

Do you refer to a certain company specialising in the arts, specifically the electronic kind? That whole "Hey kids, your mum would HATE this game!!!" thing

I was thinking more of the tobacco industry, gambling and "free" mobile phone ringtones. Shit like that.
I guess I should reiterate myself.

If you're going to pop into a social arena and post up lots of pics of jigglies and jobblies, fine, all the more power to you but you shouldn't do so under accounts that expose your identity especially if you're someone recognizable to the public. XD

Why not? Why should my tastes, weird as they may be, overshadow the quality of the work I do?

Trust me on this, if you'd see my Twitter stream you'll see from time to time a lot of kinky things and trust me that never ever did that impede me from getting a job because I'm professional in what I do.
Twitter, Facebook, Myspace etc really are the bane of employees existence. Hell a lot of employers nowadays will go over these sites looking for a little inside info on the interviewee if they came across well during the interview.

Personally I'm not on any of them and I don't have any interest in any of them. If people want to catch up with me and stuff then they can drop me an IM or an email, ring me etc... as for the people that don't have that info, it's probably because I don't want them to have it anyway.

One thing I know for certain is I definitely don't want an untrustworthy business who's sole aim is to make money, holding onto the rights of my photos and trying to stealthily change their terms & conditions to sell off all my personal details to advertisers, every couple of months.

Ugh, those "FREE" mobile games and shit which in fact charge an arm and a leg for in-game items that are essential to get anywhere once you reach a certain level...

Educating your kids is the best way to deal with it, I believe.

Like all the other suggestions, it's great in theory. But how it plays out when the time comes... Well, if you have children, you'll know how annoying they can be and how they can simply refuse to listen to a word you say.

The industry needs some heavy regulation if it is to avoid being flooded with the kinds of scams that are out there right now. You might think it's too late, but it never is. With a clear change in the law these companies will either be forced to change or forced out of business altogether.

As for your other comment, there's also the fact that parents cannot be expected to keep up with the bombardment their kids would be under from a completely unrestrained industry. There's no such thing as freedom and there never will be. The best we can do is to stop people from adversely affecting others unduly without repercussions.

I personally don't judge people BUT most people do so I usually don't act on my inhibitions in public.unless I'm buried under guise.
