Apparently Firefox doesn't like me browsing Game Banshee anymore.

This is very recent. I can't find any news about Game Banshee being attacked, or Giant Bomb, since it's mentioned in this report.
Only things I'm seeing other than normal site content is the GOG ad, the PS3 ad that looks like a spammy flash scam (has a 'shoot the duck' kind of thing) and a pair of jewellery ads, everything else looks normal
I think that whatever definitions Google is using to detect Malware are too all-encompassing. Kinda how like certain AV software will quarantine trainers because it matches the execution behaviour of certain malware.

I opened the site on IE, and my AV software didn't detect anything, and it's usually pretty snap-to about the java-based advertisement exploits.

I am seeing this as well. Google's report seems to be referring to cross-site scripting or code-injection through javasript, rather than an overt or visible hack of the website. Those problems would not be discernible to the users of the site in any obvious way. I have noticed various spam links posted to the GB forums every so often, and I wouldn't be surprised if the links contained therein performed code-injections. Perhaps that's what triggered Google? Regardless, I wouldn't be surfing GB without a firefox addon like no-script until Google gives them an all-clear :)
Encountered this last night as well. I'm using IE.
I've had this happen with a few other sites known to be fine. Sometimes idiots report a site to Google, and it gets put on their "shit list" for a while until the web site admins get it sorted out. Most recently, Subsim.com, a Submarine gaming site has had to deal with this sort of crap.
I don't think it's a hoax report to google. My Eset Antivirus(NOD 32) was blocking parts of the page and sending me up warnings when I went to the homepage directly through a bookmark. Came up with another web domain in the waning(something like webarh i think).
Ads (especially flash ads) are the number one vector of PC infection. The NY Times has run infected ads on their sites. As if we needed another reason to block ads...
I got a warning of the site being an attack site last night, but now it seems to be working just fine without any warnings. I'd also opted to continue to the site at the time after removing it from my NoScript whitelist, but the main page wouldn't load. I'm guessing that either some malicious content was being served up by ads they were hosting or the site itself was hijacked and being used to serve up malicious content, and the site got flagged as a result. I'd guess that after finding out about this the folks at Gamebanshee pulled the site completely until they could sort their shit out, and now everything is sorted and back to normal.

Another good example of why it's a good idea to use things like NoScript, as well as blackholing major ad networks (e.g. doubleclick) via one's hosts file.
