Charon121: Yes, but only with Dean Erickson in the lead role.

tomimt: He was horrible. It really wasn't any wonder why he went to realestate instead of trying to pursue a career in acting.
I wouldn't cast him in a serious play or Shakespearean movie, but he did slide into the carefree, womanizing personality of G. K. Listening to Tim Curry, I can't help but to think of mad scientists from low-budget horror movies, which is so contrary to the atmosphere of the games...
Personally I found Erickson bland and unease. He always looked like he didn't know how to behave when acting. Luckily the supporting cast of GK2 is strong enough to cover up for him most of the time.

I always though Tim Curry was a perfect fit for GK with, as the games do have a certain b-movie vibe in them.

Punished_Snake: Umh, I prefer the true GK1. I really don't like graphics and animation here.

awalterj: The remake doesn't want to diminish the original we all love in any way, I think it's more of a celebration which is why it's aptly named the Anniversary Edition.

There's one important reason to support the Anniversary Edition, and that's because if this does well, chances of a Gabriel Knight 4 happening are going to be much higher:

EDIT:

My thoughts exactly:

I hope they will include the original as well in this release, accessible from the main menu. It would be a great extra, after all is only 600 mb or so.

JudasIscariot: I've played the first one until I got stuck in the police station because I couldn't get past that sodding desk cop :D
He can be really annoying, but you must finish it's fun and The Beast within is even better :)

IIRC, that part in the police station is tricky on modern systems because it's tied to the CPU cycles, so a slowdown utility might be helpful with it.
I've played the entire series and would very much like a remake of all three GK games. It would be great to play them again on these newer pc systems. I was thinking that I would miss Tim Curry, but I've played all the Sherlock Holmes games and they did change the character of Holmes and Watson, and I got used to it.
And as awalterj says, the chance of a GK-4 would be well worth buying the remakes. :-)

There is a bug there and you can't pass the gates when the cop leaves. Just wait for the officer to have his lunch - he'll become sleepy and if you time it right (click the gate once his head falls to the desk), you can go past him.
I played and completed the second one, the one with the full-motion videos and bad acting. Hated it.

I am actually very excited for this remake, I never played the original unfortunately but this would be the perfect opportunity to get into the game, I certainly hope it is successful so we can get more Gabriel Knight games like others have suggested. :)

tomimt: I'd really love to see GK4, but I'm not at all sure I'd like to see POS as developing it. Their technical quality is very lacking. They have a lot of work to do with GK remake to prove me otherwise.
Personally, I think the technical shortcomings of Moebius and Cognition kind of added to the B-movie charm of these games. That being said, B-movie charm is certainly not something they should be aiming for with GK20, considering the future of the series supposedly depends on it.
While I've always liked b-movie style writing, I wouldn't call clear tehcnical issues as "charming". I mean two paper plates as UFO is an entirely different thing than a movie shot through a lens that blurs everything so much, that you don't see a thing that is happening.

(And I do find Moebius to be poorly written as well.)

I am a huge GK fan. I have replayed all the games several times. My least favorite being the live actor second one. I was never a fan when games moved to that type of style.

I would love to see a new GK. It would have to be beyond good to pacify all the GK fans out there.
I will be buying the remake. one to support the game, two in hopes of a stand alone new game and thee the game itself!

I tend to scare easy when it comes to bad reviews. That is what has kept me from shelling out the money for Moebius. I will buy it I'm just not sure when.

I too am a great fan of the Gabriel Knight games (all of them): the dark mystery of the first game, the characters, the weaving of history and the beautiful backdrops of the second game and the ambition, character intrigue and revelations of the third game.

As to a fourth game... ah, that I do hope for. The end of the third game left the character arcs of Gabriel and Grace near a crisis point in their relationship (including the question of just what sort of relationship they had, and wanted). Significant events had just occurred, and important decisions made, spurs towards the next step of their arc.

(The little tease towards a potential plot-point for a fourth game in the the in-game computer doesn't help the desire to see it made!)

As to the 20th Anniversary Edition, I'm very much looking forward to it: while I'm not sure of how I feel about the reported streamlining of the gameplay, and it would be a pity of the animations and acting weren't as good as one might hope for, I've liked what I've seen of the backdrops thus far, and the story is unlikely to be significantly changed, and thus a draw in itself. And indeed, to some degree, I suppose that I want to support the game in the hopes that one day we'll see a fourth Gabriel Knight game.

As to Phoenix Online... *sigh* Indeed, they do seem to have some trouble with regards to animations and occasional technical issues. I haven't played Moebius, but I recall that Cognition did indeed show such issues. I can hope, however, that they'll improve over time.
So, a new trailer has been released: here.

(Am I correct in thinking that there's no way to embed videos on this forum?)

I've been hopeful about this 20th Anniversary Edition (indeed, I said so just above, I believe :P), and I think that I'm more so now:

The music sounds excellent (as is to be expected, given that--if I recall correctly--Robert Holmes is once again directing it), the backdrops remain lovely, and I really like what I've heard of the voice-acting in this trailer. The graphic-novel cutscenes look great (I'm a fan of Phoenix Online's in this respect: I think that they have some very good 2D artists).

The 3D animations are a little tricky for me to judge in such short clips, but I think that they look better than I recall from Cognition; they're still perhaps the weakest element, but as far as I see, they look good enough.

Speaking--pun intended--of the voice acting, given the new actors the voices aren't as they were in the original. However, I do like them (more, I think, than I did the voice-acting in Gabriel Knight 2), and they sound right to me.

Overall: I'm excited for this! ^_^
