Vitek: NOLF and Homeworld? Where? Score?
yes, that's right (next month that is :) and of course I have subscribed this magazine because I like the articles in it. Level is too snobby for me so I buy that only for a superb full game (most of the times cheaper than in a box via retail).
Never seen anything like that in the US, but that's pretty awesome way to get some marketing done for an indie developer. Gets their name out there, and shows off what they can do.

seems that the publishers are more "benevolent" in the eastern world as we're all poor and behindhand, while you westerners are all rich and can afford your games for full price :D

just kidding, it's probably because of the small market which is not that perspective for them, so they might as well earn much more money by selling one single licence to a magazine...

Letsplayretro: There are quite a few magazines in german, which give away free games. PC Games, Gamestar and Computer Spiele Bild come to my mind.

I have many of those magazine full versions at home but I rarely play them. I don't know...I appreciate games more when I buy them the moment I really want them - in a nice box and all for a little more money.

But NOLF and Amnesia as full versions sounds awesome!
The thing I like about GameStar and CBS is the way they provide you with the DVD and CD inlays for the game so that you can create your own nice little presentation box. I've got most of them lined up on my shelf dating back from 2002 and got introduced to the Anno series through CBS.

And I do remember NOLF 2 being on the cover of the short-lived PC Powerplay (RIP) at one point...

I guess we in Europe can generally count ourselves lucky. I was in the UK recently and noticed that PC magazines have only demos on the covermount and still have the nerve to charge 7-9 pounds for a magazine.
