At first, I thought it would be one of those poorly written fan fiction so I didn't download it for my Kindle, despite that it's free. But I downloaded it couple of days and I just finished it.

I never thought that I would enjoy this book so much. I find it very fascinating with how technology can go awry under insane circumstances. I was so engrossing in it and I like how the author chose to show instead of tell so I always feel like I'm really there and the atmosphere is just intense.

Of course, I have never play System Shock 1 and 2 before so I don't know if this book is pretty faithful to SS1 but I really enjoy it a lot.

Anyone know really good books about hackers? :) I thought it was so neat when the main character had to use limited resources just to survive under dire circumstances.

Perhaps, this book is ideal introduction for those whose has not play SS1 and 2 but it's pretty long book but it's worth it.

It's unfortunate that the rights to SS games are kinda muddled but I really hope that we can play legal version of SS games in near future.

Here's the link to the book and it's free. :)

If you guys have read it, I'm curious what you think about it. :D
While I haven't read it, this one is from the guy behind this blog: http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/, and yeah I would expect it to be decent at least. Aside from RPS (and GOG I guess) it's the only general gaming site I follow.

I would recommend "Guiding Rainbow's Light", as an example of things going bad through nuclear apocalypse, and then technology being used to overcome the aftermath. What is particularly interesting about it is the story is based on the Megaman universe, which has become fertile grounds for some writers. Like "Free Radical", it stands as one of the better videogame stories that I have read.

Huh, Shamus Young? He did DM of The Rings, right? I enjoyed that. Thanks for the recommendation. :)

Thank you for recommending that story. Btw, isn't that website going to purge every stories out of it? I'm bit concerned that I may not have enough time to read it and it may be suddenly remove before I can finish it. X.X

Not every story, just the ones that are rated M or MA, or possess content unacceptable to FF.net. Personally, I am very much opposed to that, but I wouldn't be surprised if other writing communities spring up in response. In the meantime however, I recommend using FanfictionDownloader, so you could capture and convert stories into .PDFs, or other formats. This is very handy for archiving stories onto my PC, and making them easier to read through.

As ever, I got story recommendations. If you have an interest in the classic X-COM games, then I highly recommend Andre Galvao's fanfiction-novelization of the first game. Comes in .PDF format, or you can go to the FF.net version to capture your own copy.
