Vitek: I think town had too many PR's but overall I liked this game. Flavour was nice, consistent, made sense and I had no problems with mod(we even invented little night role for me :-)).
For those not in the know, Vitek spent his nights in a life or death struggle with his bedroom furniture.....

Night 2:
Penutbrittle divines Vitek

You are stunned by the days events. There’s a HUGE difference between portents of doom & actually seeing people die in front of you. Now 4 dead in a couple of days…. Where will it end?

You feel a desperate need to be alone.

On your way to what refuge you can find in your room, it happens again…. that blinding pain in the back of your head that heralds a vision. You can see a summer meadow, with a man frolicking carefree. That has got to be good, right?

As the vision, clears you notice that you are standing outside Viteks room.
You consider knocking to wish him luck, but think better of it as you catch a whiff of perfume.
Is that part of the vision, or has he already got lucky tonight?

You have Divined Vitek. He has Good Fortune.

Nmillar dies
Slightly puzzled by the days events, you need a bit of peace and quiet to think things through.
The 4 walls of your penthouse apartment are really not helping.
You need some air, the lights and sounds of the city to take you away from all the death and suspicion.

It seems things are even worse than you feared. More than 1 killer in your hotel. How will your reputation ever survive this?

Leaning on the safety rail in your rooftop garden, watching the traffic go by, you are simultaneously alone and surrounded by noise and life. It’s the perfect tonic. If only you could stay up here forever….

In your own little world, you do not notice the footsteps creeping up on you. The first clue that you are not entirely secluded is a wrench smacking you on the back of the head! Dazed, you are unable to defend yourself as your assailant grabs you around the knees. Before you fully comprehend what is happening, you are over that rail and plunging towards the ground, 5 floors down….

You have been murdered.

Joesapphire Tracks Robbeasy
You’ve had a busy evening.
After the events of the day, no-one seemed to feel like a sit down meal, so they’ve all been ordering room service.

You’ve just delivered the last tray & are starting to consider what you are going to eat.
As you exit the room, you notice someone else is leaving their room.
Your curiosity piqued, you quietly follow.

Robbeasy is clearly up to something with a stride like that… Determined and yet almost afraid to arrive…
You watch Robbeasy slip into Vitek’s room.
You’re still pushing your cart & are getting hungry yourself, so that will have to do.
You return to the kitchen to find something for dinner.

You have Tracked Robbeasy. He visited Vitek.

Muttly investigates Vitek
You were right there, staring Baron in the face as he died!
You take a moment to look around the room, partly to gauge the reactions of the others and partly to distract yourself from the feeling of disgust at what you have brought about.
Some look resigned, some beaten down by the relentlessness of it all, some can’t even meet your gaze...

It’s Vitek that jumps out at you though.
He looks as though he is going to be physically sick.
His attention is fixed on the bartender, almost begging for a drink.
If he reacts like this to seeing someone die, there’s no way he could actually make it happen.

HE IS NOT A KILLER.

Robbeasy protects / blocks Vitek
This weekend was supposed to be a happy occasion, the chance to bask in the glow of a job well and truly done. Instead, it’s been the worst time of your life. So much horror… So much bloodshed… And the Professor gone...

You are fast reaching complete despair. You are almost afraid to go to bed in case you never wake up. Then again, you almost hope that you won’t wake up & have to face this dreadful place tomorrow.
No! You won’t be alone tonight…

You arrive at Vitek’s door.
You hesitate, wondering how he will react to your advance.
Then you notice that the door isn’t quite closed.
With your heart in your mouth, you enter & fasten the latch behind you.
He is prone on the bed, still half dressed.
Fearing the worst, you rush to his side.
You jump out of your skin as something knocks your foot, but it’s just an empty whisky bottle rolling out from under the bed! The stress must be getting to him too. He hasn’t even unpacked his case. What were his dreams for the weekend?
You empathise with this poor, lonely man & slide into his bed. You wrap your arms around him & hold him close as you fall asleep.

You wake up about an hour before dawn. He is snoring softly beside you.
You suddenly panic.
How are you going to explain this to him.
Hopefully, you won’t have to.
You grab your clothes & return to your own room,
He will probably never know you were there…

You have Protected Vitek.

Ooh! And now you can see why I took Muttly's side in the Muttly/Baron intrigue! After my investigation I concluded by his play that he was the cop.
When I was right about that I became over-confident and I was sure I could do the same with Rob. I was convinced he was the Watcher. (I thought a watcher would explain why he decided to proclaim that he believed muttly - I knew Rob powered Vitek, and if he knew that muttly had targetted him that might have convinced him. When he stated Pazzer was lying after falseclaiming watcher I was double-convinced. And I was wrong! )
Still, at least he was town eh? Lucky Joe

What did the mafias get up to night two Rod? What's all this about the block not happening? eh? EH?

Can we get a link to the scumchat maybe? Maybe as well the observer board?

Before I get to the scum actions for night 2, I was watching the scum chat.
For a while it looked like Stuart (Strongarm) was going to kill Vitek.
I found that hilarious:
Rob (Doc) protects Vitek.
Joe (Tracker) sees Rob visiting Vitek.
Vitek dies.
I was desperate to see how Rob would have talked his way out of that.....

I also made a right mess of the night 2 scum actions.
Itai investigated Vitek, but I cocked up & gave her Muttly instead.
What is up with Muttly today? The way he hounded poor Baron to his doom has you a bit freaked. You need to find out more about this guy.

Luckily, you know a very acomplished thief…. And he just happens to need a favour from you tonight!
A whispered conversation later and it’s all arranged.

You pop into the back office on the pretence of refilling your stapler & pocket the emergency spare key for the penthouse suite. Giorgio is overjoyed to see that. He gives you an enthusiastic & suggestive hug…

When you separate, you no longer have a keycard… In it’s place is a wallet. The name on the credit card reads “Lawrence Jackson”.

Stuart roleblocked Muttly, but I had already sent Muttly his pm before I noticed this.
To make amends, I changed his action to Rolecop Muttly.
Ordinarilly, this would be a critical fail, giving the cop to the scum, but they had already pretty much guessed this, so it was the least harmful thing I could come up with.

You really need to keep an eye on Muttly.
You've been in a few tense situations before & you get a feel for how people normally react. Muttly is not reacting the way you would expect. He was quite friendly with Baron yesterday (Well, as friendly as you could expect under the circumstances...).
But today he was at his throat all day.

Then there was the look in his eyes as Baron died.
It wasn't shock, or horror.
It was almost satisfaction.

Then after, when most people were still trying to process this event, he wasn't.
He was watching how the others reacted.

You've seen eyes like that before... They are usually hunting for you!

Muttly is a Cop!

Pazzer killed Nmillar
Adam is NOT happy!
You were supposed to kill Vitek last night, but he is still breathing. Adam is not the sort of person who takes excuses well. You really need to make it up to him. There can be no mistakes tonight.

Nmillar is making you all nervous, going on and on about names. What’s in a name anyway?
Better not to find out where this is leading. In a way, he’s the perfect target, having that penthouse apartment. Nobody has any reason at all to be up there, so you won’t be disturbed again. Just to be safe, there won’t be any messing about with bottles of bleach either…

Lisa gives you the spare penthouse keycard from the back office & you grab a wrench from the maintenance room.

You slip into the lavish suite, quietly admiring the tasteful décor as you hunt your prey.
There he is, out on the roof garden.
He’s leaning on the railing, looking out over the city.
This is perfect!
You creep up behind him & swing the wrench at his head. It makes a sickening crunch as it connects. He staggers, but doesn’t go down.
Hey, Down! There’s a thought.
While he is still off balance, you grab him round the knees & lift with all your might.
As he dissapears over the rail you breath a sigh of relief.
It is done!

You have killed Nmillar.

The scumchat link is in the scum role PMs.
I'll post the observer link once I'm done with the night actions.

One other thing I think I should point out concerns Muttly's results.
The idea behind Killer / not killer results was that, even if he picked a scum, if that player had not yet performed a kill, he would have got a "not killer" result.
Baron & Stuart both had kills in their backstory, so would have shown as killer regardless.

Anyway, on to Night 3:

Robbeasy protects (& blocks) Muttly

Feeling pretty good about closing the net on the bad guys, you all manage to convince the bartender to give you another round.

You are really worried about Muttly.
He’s been quite open about checking out the other guests & you are scared he’s going to bite off more than he can chew.
So when the bartender starts handing round the ‘goodnight’ drinks, you slip a sedative into Muttly’s glass.
By the time he’s finished drinking, he is already a little woozy, so you follow him to make sure he gets back to his room OK.
He’s staggering like a zombie down the corridor, so you guide him into his room & lock the door behind you.

You help him into bed. Thanks to your ministrations, he’s out like a light, but you cannot help wrapping your arms round him & using his manly chest as a pillow.

At some point in the night, you are disturbed by the door handle rattling.
Someone is trying to get in.
Good thing that you put the security chain on….

After this, you are not really able to relax for the rest of the night & sneak out before he starts to stir.

You have protected (& blocked) Muttly.

Muttly fails to investigate Joesapphire
Feeling pretty good about closing the net on the bad guys, you all manage to convince the bartender to give you another round.
Before you even manage to finish your drink, you come over all light headed.
You decide to have a bit of a lie down before going out hunting tonight.

The next thing you know, it’s morning & your chance is lost.
You have the mother of all sore heads.
Did you really go to town in the bar last night, or was your drink spiked?

You don’t remember leaving the bar, let alone getting undressed & into bed.
And is that another symptom of your monstrous hangover, or can you smell perfume?

You have failed to investigate Joesapphire.

Joesapphire fails to track Penutbrittle
Feeling pretty good about closing the net on the bad guys, you all manage to convince the bartender to give you another round.
Sat at the table, chewing over the day’s events, you cast your eye over the remaining guests. You decide that you want to know more about Penutbrittle. What does he get up to when the lights go out?

Lost in thought, you are given a rude awakening as your pint glass ends up in your lap.
Jumping to your feet, the chair refuses to move at anything like the required speed and you tumble, very undignified, into a heap on the floor, even hitting your head on the corner of the fireplace as you go down.
By the time you stop the bleeding and mop the beer from your trousers, you are alone in the room.
It looks like you have missed your opportunity.

You’ve been in this hotel long enough to get comfortable with the positions of the furniture & you are absolutely convinced that this sort of thing couldn’t possibly happen to you by accident….

You have failed to track Penutbrittle.

Penutbrittle divines Joesapphire
Feeling pretty good about closing the net on the bad guys, you all manage to convince the bartender to give you another round.
Suddenly there’s an almighty commotion as Joesapphire tumbles out of his chair.
It clearly looks more comical to you than it does to him & you really struggle to suppress a giggle.
At least he’s got his bad luck out of the way for a while….

You have divined Joesapphire. He has Good luck.

Itai.sharim fails to kill Muttly
So Muttly is the one sniffing you guys out.
After Adam conspicuously failed to leap to Pazzer’s defence, you decide you need to get into his good books.
You’ll get rid of this meddler.

You head back to your room for a few hours to wait until the dead of night.
When you decide it is time, you arm yourself with a pair of scissors and a VERY sharp nail file.
You stalk the hallways with anxiety warring with murderous rage in your head.

But when you arrive at his door, it all starts to unravel.
You can’t get the damn door open.
You have the passcard from reception, but the security chain is on as well.
You never expected that & have no way past it.
You seriously consider howling in frustration, but just manage to stop yourself from waking up the whole hotel.

As you stand outside his room, trying to regain your inner calm, you catch a whiff of a familiar perfume.
Now if only you can remember who was wearing that earlier…..

You have failed to kill Muttly.

Stuart Roleblocks Joesapphire
It looks like those self righteous bastards want to celebrate hanging your friend.
Your blood is boiling, but won’t it look suspicious if you refuse to join them?
If you really have to stay, it’s going to be on your terms.

You find yourself sat next to Joesapphire.
All it takes is a little nudge to ‘accidentally’ spill his drink in his lap.
When he tries to jump to his feet, the addition of a sly hook of your foot round the chair leg sends him sprawling.
As he goes down, he takes a whack to the head from the edge of the fireplace.
So there he is, in a heap on the floor with blood matting his hair & beer soaking into his trousers.
By the time he’s got cleaned up, the rest of you are already on your way to bed.
There’s nothing that brightens your day quite as much as ruining someone else’s.

You have blocked Joesapphire.

See what I mean about co-ordinated actions....

Night 4:

Robbeasy protects (& blocks) Twilightbard, then gets killed

You decide to visit Twilightbard tonight.

You’ve almost forgotten what your own bed feels like & you’re in no hurry to get re-acquainted with it.
Twilightbard welcomes you in, but as he realizes why you are here, he says he just wants to get some sleep.
All the stress of the last few days has left him exhausted and he hasn’t been sleeping too well.
You reassure him that he can relax.
Nothing bad will happen to him while you are looking after him.

You take it gently, but it turns out that he did have some energy after all!
You don’t want tongues to wag, so you leave his room in the small hours to get a change of clothes.

You have protected Twilightbard.

Humming softly to yourself as you walk back down the corridor, you don’t hear someone creeping up behind you.
Your first indication that something is wrong is when you get wacked across the back of the head by a fire extinguisher.

Itai-sharim pummels you, all the time screaming:
“How dare you!”
The red cylinder crashes into your ribs.
“Are there any men you haven’t seduced here yet?”
It breaks your arm that you threw up to protect yourself.
“Were you going to leave any for the rest of us?”
The last thing you see is the end of the appliance powering it’s way toward your face….

You have been murdered.

Muttly investigates Itai.sharim
It seems like your job is done.
Stuart was clearly a bad lot.
I mean, what kind of guy goes around with knives in his sleeves?
You took an opportunity to check out his luggage & found all kinds of other incriminating gear.

Still, he wasn't alone.
Pazzer was his accomplice.
Are there more?

You are the first to arrive at breakfast in the morning, so that you can get a good look at the others as they arrive.
Itai.sharim rushes in, almost as if she is afraid that she's too late, but she's only the second to appear.
She seems to have rushed her shower & make-up too.

On closer inspection, what you thought was hurriedly applied nail polish & blusher is almost certainly flecks of blood on her fingers & cheek.
She doesn't look like she is injured herself.
So there is still a killer in the hotel....

You have investigated Itai.sharim.
She IS a killer.

Itai.sharim kills Robbeasy
These last few days have been a real rollercoaster for you.
First you realize that Adam is a killer.
Then Giorgio starts spilling blood.
He insists that he doesn’t want to, but he daren’t get on Adams wrong side.
Then you get dragged into the nastiness.
You even went out with murder in your mind last night.
At least you didn’t go all the way….
Now Adam is dead & Giorgio too.
This is your chance to make a fresh start.
No-one is left to incriminate you.

You wander the corridors aimlessly, your mind on it’s own entirely independent journey.
Then a whiff of perfume brings you back with a jolt.
It’s the same perfume as last night.
Did the wearer see you running away from Muttly’s room?
Hang on, Muttly doesn’t stay on this floor.
Who is this mysterious bed-hopper?
You creep back to the corner & wait….

Out comes Robbeasy, looking very pleased with herself.
She doesn’t see you & heads off in the other direction.
You see red!
Red!, right there, a fire extinguisher!!
You heft the device, kick off your shoes & pad down the hall.

You bring it crashing down on the back of her head, screaming:
“You SLUT!”
BAM! Into her ribs.
“How dare you!”
She throws up her arm to fend you off.
Another swing snaps her forearm.
“Are there any men you haven’t seduced here yet?”
One final thrust into her face.
“Were you going to leave any for the rest of us?”

You have killed Robbeasy

Joesapphire tracks Twilightbard
After the events of the day, you decide to visit Twilightbard for a nightcap.
He is not great company & you start to suspect he wants you to leave.

Why is that?
Does he have other plans for tonight?

You are fed up with all this cloak & dagger stuff, so you come right out & ask him.
He insists he is just tired. The last several days have been stressfull & have started to wear him down.
You believe him & bid him goodnight.

You have tracked Twilight. He did not visit anyone.

My thoughts when planning the setup:

I had a lot of fun messing about with the Diviner Role in Game 8.
When I made up the post restriction to cover me passing info to my fellow scum, I decided I wanted to use this role in a future game....

The Beurocrat role came to me while messing with heads in Game 9.
This CAN be a real game changer, depending on how it is used.
Will the info be leaked early, or kept as insurance against false claims?

The name cop is a fairly weak role.
It is the closest the scum have to a vanilla, but it could be really useful if the beurocrat does blab.

Adam Snook is the real muscle in the scum team, as befits the flavour.
But if he gets lynched early, they could really struggle.

The encryptor is there as insurance against this event. Even without any real power roles left, the extra communication would give them a fighting chance.

So, Nmillar was opposed by Itai.
Town tracker matched against Scum watcher ability.
The Fortune Teller is named as town, but depending on the results, could end up being more use to scum than town.
Crazybear was less than a normal Vanilla.
I expected the 2 John Smith's to accuse each other of lying.
The town did have 2 docs, but the backup was paranoid & the scum had a strongarm.
Muttly was also slightly less reliable than a standard cop.

The names were designed to look more or less random, but all of the vanilla characters had surnames that began with "S". The scum did pick up on this.
Just a little nudge if Adam Snook wanted to claim vanilla....

Overall, there were a lot of roles, but I do not think the town was overpowered.
I have heard it said that people do prefer to play a role with abilities, rather than just vanilla.
Now that it is all out in the open, I'd be interested to hear opinions about this.

And if anyone is interested, the observer chat:
http://www.quicktopic.com/46/H/ChR6FMkjwvyD

I was annoyed when Red_Baron died.
Had he survived, I would have had him develope into a full serial killer for my next game....

You've got mistake in last post. You attributed Robbeasy's actions to Joe. ;-)

Was muttly able to get correct results only on nights when killer carried out the kill?

As long as the target had killed during that night, or at any time before this, he would be labeled a killer.
So if Pazzer was investigated night 1, he would be innocent.
If he was investigated night 2, 3 or 4, he would be guilty.

Hmmm, it weakens the cop but not as much as I thought but quite a lot anyway. Not so overpowered town, then. Muttly was lucky with his choices a lot.

And then I had to go and make that case, which worked out in the end because the mafia already knew who the cop was anyway.

Edit: Also amused that my attack on Muttly actually led us to looking at itai...I think trying to get those town points actually hurt him in the end.

Little statistic: This was third town win compared to 5 mafia wins. More sadly this game featured 10th Day 1 mislynch out of 10 attempts. Even random name generator would be more successful. :-)

I read scumchat and like that they used encryptor a lot. It's also funny my half-drunken self-boasting post about never getting lynched dettered them from trying to get me mislynched. :-)

Well, in this game the town clearly showed that they were more than happy to random day 1.

And remember, even if the town lynches at random, there are three mafia that will try to make sure the random lynch isn't quite so random.

Fully understanding the role I would say it weakens the cop quite a bit. I would say in rare cases would a game with 15 last long enough to even consider going back to reinvestiate someone. TBs right, enourmously lucky on the inspection order.

@Robb, I totally missed it. Honestly after Baron was lynched I figured we would be on easy street as town with one scum right out. When he turned out neutral I figured I would have to claim to defend myself and would be killed N2. So to be honest at that point I stopped checking for breadcrumbs figuing I would be dead.

Horrible reads for me this game. Felt they were much better in game 8 and my team lost, but here we won... I am clearly a high impact player!!!

Hey what about NMillar's fall? Call me morbid but I don't want to miss that.

I'm jealous! Everybody's return flavour is so saucy! Mine is quite bland in comparison :p
I love Rob's character in this!
For anyone who cares, here are Vitek's night actions:

Night 2
VITEK:
I want to do something! Give me some power, please. :-) I want to investigate my wardrobe. :-)

ME:
OK.
You are now a Wardrobe Cop.
Finding yourself unable to sleep, you decide to investigate your wardrobe.
However, with everything that has happened, you've not actually got round to unpacking & have been living out of your suitcase.
The wardrobe has 5 empty hangers.
A bit of a bugger as you have 6 shirts to hang.

You have investigated your wardrobe.
It hates you.

Night 3:
ME:
OK, you now only have 5 clean shirts, so decide to have another go at the wardrobe.
But somehow the door is locked.
Now where did you leave that bloody key?
In your frustration, you grab the wardrobe & give it a good shake.
Oh My God, it's toppling over!
This damned thing has it in for you!!
Luckily you dive aside at the last possible minute & it crashes down inches from your head.
You'll need a few more months in the gym if you're going to try to rescusitate it, but then, given the way it has behaved, why should you bother?
FInal score: Vitek 1, Wardobe 0.

You have killed your wardrobe.
It can't hate you anymore.....

VITEK:
Damn you, Rodzaju! Why do you presume my actions! I wanted to roleblock it tonight.
Heh, I really wanted but didn't make it in time. :-) Thanks for another action. :-)

ME:
Well, it came very close to roleblocking you....
;-}

Night 4:
VITEK:
Ok, I better send it to you know before you start predicting ma actions again. Tonight I want to commute to bathroom to get away from ghost of my wardrobe.

ME:
That Wardrobe will never get you now, but the body lies accusingly across the floor.
Was it acting alone?
Why does the Chest of Drawers keep watching you?
Were they conspiring to get you together?
You decide to play safe & stay out of their reach.
The Bath is nowhere as comfortable as your bed, but at least the Chest of Drawers won't fit in the bathroom.....

You wake up with aching cramp just about everywhere, but at least you do wake up....

I do wonder how much this had to do with all those empty whisky bottles under his bed....
