Bloodygoodgames: I think the only reason The West Wing isn't as popular outside America as in, is you really have to understand American politics to get all the subtleties and few people outside the US really do (well....few inside understand it either, it's that fucked up, LOL)

BTW, my uni degree was Political Science so you can probably see why I love it so much!!
Have you seen VEEP? Awesome!

Yes and no, it is made by the Scotsman that did "The Thick of It" but if focuses on American politics. The office of the VP to be exact. It's a fairly accurate satire. Highliest recommended.

I'll see if I can find some trailer videos to watch online.

Unfortunately, though, I can't stand Julia Louis-Dreyfuss and, as she's the lead, it might be really annoying :) It is an HBO series, though, and they're usually very good. Thanks for the recommendation. We'll see......
Oh yeah, I forgot a few, one is (thanks bloodygoodgames for reminding me) Pokemon, I also started watching online and it is a really good show, Friends (thanks inkpanther), and Batman Beyond, call me crazy but I found it a little better than the other Batman cartoons.
Uh, let's see. I have many favourite TV shows, I'll list what comes to mind immediately.

I really love sitcoms, If it's one of my favourites I can watch it anytime.
-Dharma & Greg
-How I Met Your Mother
-M*A*S*H

And I love science fiction.
-Star Trek
-Battlestar Galactica (2004)
-Flash Gordon (2007)
-The Invisible Man (2001)

But mostly I like the television equivalent of junk food. I find myself frequently mentally exhausted from work and the computer games I play usually also require a lot of thought on my part. I find myself reaching for television when I need to veg-out and turn my brain off for a while. So my absolute favourites are:

-ThunderCats (1985)
-The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog
-Batman (1966)
-Spider-Man (1967)
and the all time greatest work of televised fiction
-Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers
After going through the DVR, I see I forgot one:

Portlandia
My previous post contained 80 TV shows. Since then I've been able to narrow down my favorites by half.

Angel
Arrested Development
Battlestar Galactica
Breaking Bad
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Community
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Deadwood
Dexter
Dollhouse
Farscape
Firefly
Freaks And Geeks
Friends
Gilmore Girls
How I Met Your Mother
Justified
The Larry Sanders Show
Mad Men
My So-Called Life
The Office (US)
Parks And Recreation
Peep Show
Profit
Pushing Daisies
Rome
Seinfeld
The Shield
Six Feet Under
The Sopranos
Spaced
Sports Night
Supernatural
Trailer Park Boys
Twin Peaks
The Venture Bros.
Veronica Mars
The West Wing
The Wire
Wonderfalls
The X-Files

Wow, there are so many TV shows I've never seen. I like Twin Peaks, Firefly and Game of Thrones but can't think of much else I've seen and liked. Weird but I guess it comes down to a lot of shit TV being shown here, hence me losing interest and not paying enough attention to what might be good.

Saying that I'm currently watching Breaking Bad (just raced through season one), and loving it!
I've got no particular favourites, but Smallville is my current guilty pleasure, even if the extensive moral exposition at the end of each episode ("well, children, what have we learned today?") and the excessive use of euphemisms in the scriptwriting does seriously get on my nerves.

Going back through my Stargate SG1 DVDs and my Babylon 5 DVDs again as well. Classic 90s sci-fi, beats most of what's on TV these days.
I don't think it contends for my favorite spot, but Night Court Has recently released seasons 5 and 6 on DVD. Its a good enough show, I'm hoping they finish out the series. (3 more seasons to go)
I used to love the X-Files. Then I tried to re-watch all of it back to back just recently; awful stuff. I never thought I'd have to reassign it to 'so bad its good' territory like Knight Rider (the David Hasselhoff version).

To avoid criticising and running, some shows I've enjoyed:

Archer (the cartoon)
Breaking Bad
Fringe
Montalbano (telemovies)
Person of Interest (popcorn stuff, like modern day A-Team).
Sherlock
The Killing
Wallander

Kind of liked:

Castle (the early seasons, later ones totally lost the spark.)
Awake (a fun concept that didn't get handled well, deserved cancelling)
Tron Uprising (cartoon)

Most of my old favourites have already been covered in this thread. But I must mention Farscape, and Firefly as shows I've watched more than once. I have watched The West Wing in its entirety and as well written as it is, it really does feel like I'm wearing rose tinted glasses. The music gets to you.
In no particular order:

• Firefly
Outcasts
• Stargate SG1
• Stargate Atlantis (really wish they could have made another season and/or released the movie that was planned)
• Stargate Universe (started okay, got bad, got a bit better... got cancelled)
• ThunderCats (2011)
• Avatar: The Last Airbender (or Avatar: The Legend of Aang as it's called in Europe and Australia)
• Castle
• How I Met Your Mother
• The Big Bang Theory
• Doctor Who
• Scrubs
• Merlin
• House M.D.
