Rohan15: I used to play Atlantica. How's Vindictus?
A lot of fun so far - gameplay is similar to those 3d melee brawlers you see on consoles, such as Devil May Cry (though not quite as extreme as that), and you can also see shades of Dark Messiah* as well. Combat is pretty smooth once you get used to it, and is all about reflex and hit detection - it wouldn't be at all out of place in a single-player game. The Source engine physics add a lot of flash to the presentation, but they also contribute to the gameplay in some entertaining ways.

I get the sense that there isn't a huge variety of content; I expect that players repeat missions frequently to rack up items and skill points. Multiplayer is nice, but it can get jittery depending on your teammates' connections. I don't know if the game offers enough to keep me playing long-term, but it's free to download and play, so I'm sure I'll get my money's worth.

Out of the eight or so missions I've seen, most were soloable, but a few called for a group due to the difficult boss encounters. If you're patient and very skilled, though, you could probably solo them at level.

* Hey, I liked Dark Messiah.

You want to know why I stopped? I glitched through the map and was crying the whole time I wrote the report to the GM. That was when I realized I was getting a little too attached to the game, so I quit. I don't know why I'm sharing this story with you all, since you'll probably never let me live this down.
The favourite would have to be World of Warcraft, even though I despise that childish twat Varian Wrynn. I mean, yeah I get the story but he's written to act no better than most players.

Other than that, I quite enjoy the world and characters. Speaking of other players, I think I'd prefer the game to be a single-player game.
I'm currently playing classic EverQuest on http://www.project1999.org/ .

Its not for the faint of heart and is almost punishing at times. The leveling is slow compared to modern MMO's and when you die you lose experience and can actually delevel. You also leave all your equipped and inventory items on your corpse... which can easily lead to naked corpse recovery runs and begging for run speed buffs as your dead body might be 10 minutes away (if you're lucky). When was the last time you were truly afraid of dying in a game?

Yet because of the difficulty there's a bigger sense of accomplishment in EQ than other MMO's I've played.

Classic EverQuest will kick you in the groin and make you like it.

Ten Ton Hammer did a review awhile back for those interested-

I was laughing because its funny, and sad at the same time. Don't worry, I know just what you speak about. ;) Been there, done that. :D Played WoW for like ~8 hours every day for 9 months... quit because it was taking too much of my day. :)
