AFnord: Facebook is buggy. I've had friends disappear and reappear several times. Around jan/feb I noticed that I sometimes was missing 10 or more friends (I knew how many friends I was supposed to have, I never bothered to find out who was actually missing), but then they just came back.

spindown: It's possible that your friends just deactivated their accounts temporarily. People do that to prevent themselves from wasting time on Facebook during exam periods, for example.
It has happened outside of exam periods as well, so I suspect that it was facebook that was being buggy.

StingingVelvet: FOR MY NEW JOB it says.

Zenman12: Yeah I read it. I didn't think you were serious.

Your job requires facebook?

Weird.
Lot's of jobs require social media. Whether it's beneficial or not is questionable, but the fact that they require it should be obvious to anyone who's been on the internet in the last 2-3 years.

SimonG: That reminds me. Make two accounts. One for your normal friends and one for your pupils. You wouldn't be the first US teacher over there that got into trouble for what was in their FB page.

Having an FB page as a teacher seems to be very helpful, as it is in easy way to keep in contact with your pupils for homework etc. I heard this first hand from TLG teacher over there, so you might want to try that.
I don't think I put too much on there that could cause a problem. Still, probably a good idea.

Zenman12: There someone that I know and we were friends. Now they are not on my friends list. The funny thing is that when I made a fake account to find out if they blocked me I couldn't find them. I still can't find them nor can I find them through their family friends...it is as if they disappeared!
Use Unfriend Finder in the future.

It's a very easy userscript for Facebook, and does all the tracking of surreptitious "unfriending" done to you automatically. This includes peoples' accounts being de-activated or they pruning you from their "friends" list deliberately.

If you really want to know about that sort of thing, of course. It can be a boon or a curse.

Thanks!

I've always been a guy for good or worse rather have things upfront. But you're right sometime it can be bad.

Ignorance is bliss?

Has it worked for you? Not scammy is it? Does it tell the DIFFERENCE between deactivation or disabled or blocking?

I've heard of jobs maybe benefiting from Facebook. But "required?"

I guess I'm an orc from the stone age.

Yes. I use it on my FB account. It's solid and unobtrusive, just listing itself neatly under your "find friends" tab on the left and also on the top bar, adjacent to your profile tab.

Lifehacker did a small piece on it, it's not a piece of malware or anything.

Thanks. I tried it however it listed everything as "Friend Request Pending" with the date being at the time I installed the extension--not when I actually friend requested. Many of these people I did years ago and I just find it odd that all are still request pending.

Is there something I did wrong?

In fact what is it suposed to do? Just find who unfriend you. Because if that is the case why would it care about what request are pending. Or is it more than that? What does it do besides find who unfriends. Friends request rejected, blocking, deactivated, and disabling accounts?

P.S. I tried to read the FAQ but much of it is unfinished.

If you're part of marketing for an organization part of your job will be to work with their social media presence. So, yep, it's required. As for ones where you'd be throwing away money to not do it, but it isn't technically "required", anything client based (e.g. realtor, etc.).

I don't like Facebook or Twitter either (and don't even have accounts) but they do get used and a lot of a company's customers (as well as future customers) are already using them. The concept (if not those particular sites) is here to stay, in one way or another, for the next decade or two.
