LordKuruku: They only ever teach you this stuff in school once, if at all (I know they never taught me what a semicolon is, and I still don't have a firm grasp of it's proper use), and learning more English on one's own is no easy task, so I suppose it can't really be helped.
Assuming they teach it even once. Around here I didn't get any grammar to speak of until high school Latin. And Strunk & White is only really good for style, not the nuts and bolts of writing. I've seen them stick to things which haven't been done in years. Granted I don't do a lot of reading, but I was well into my twenties before I saw even one instance where somebody opted to put the superfluous s when forming the posessive of words like Nicholas.

EDIT: From now on I'm going to be speeling it GoOG.

GoG makes sense if you think of gg right after finishing a good online game.

gg stands for good game and so I guess the reason why some people say GoG is just a play on words with gog and gg.

Having said that, you should really play some more games if you find this topic interesting enough to start a thread. :p

Does the same not apply to us for responding to it?

Miaghstir: The Oatmeal can help you with that semicolon.
That was actually rather helpful. Much more than reading the Wikipedia article for the umpteenth time. Still, that's one of the things that bothered me about school. I even specifically asked about it from my earliest years to about sometime in middle school, with it always falling on deaf ears. Going through the years of K-12, and not learning how to use part of punctuation. I still remember seeing cardboard cutouts of all the punctuation symbols lining the wall, and asking the teacher "What is this one you haven't told us yet?", only to be met with "It's a semicolon" and little more than that, with subsequent requests met with little or no response.

I doubt I need to go on explaining the abysmal state of education, seeing as the fact that most people barely know how to use periods these days provides a more than adequate demonstration. I might actually be intelligent if they, you know, answered the questions that young minds had wished to ask them, but then I suppose it was never their place to grant miracles...

I'm sure we all know the true purpose of the public education system regardless. -_-;

LordKuruku: -_-;
This is an example of the proper use of a semicolon ^^'.
I know it isn’t grammatically correct but it looks nice I suppose. It also makes it look more like an acronym than it otherwise does.
People use "GoG" because they're stupid.
It's like "LoL" instead of "LOL".
