Too The Moon was brilliant. It made me shed manly tears. I recommend this game to ANYONE, because it was brilliantly done.
Why did I make a thread about this on General discussion? Because the actual game's forum consists of about 7 posts that only talk about the bugs, rather than how beautiful the game is. I think that this game is one of the best games on GoG right now, and yet it's near the bottom of the list on sales.
This game deserves all praise it has received and more people need to buy it. Don't let the RPG Maker art discourage you, because the game is absolutely gorgeous in its own way.
If you want a game that is hilarious, emotional, and engaging, buy it right now. The whole thing is about 3 hours long and meant to be beaten in one sitting, so I recommend doing that. 10 bucks is worth it for sure.
It's in my Top 3 to buy list, along with Planescape Torment and Neverwinter Nights (which I already own on disc, but want a back up digital copy)).
Promise, I'll be buying it within the next month :)

I just finished the let's play. To the Moon is one of the most emotional pieces of fiction I've seen. Talk about a roller-coaster. I was sobbing uncontrollably and shouting "It's not right!" during the "Everything's Alright" sequence, and started crying tears of joy when <spoiler>River showed up at NASA. The whole shuttle launch sequence was beautiful, and that final image of Johnny and River holding hands will forever be burned into my brain.</spoiler> Now if only I could make sense of that post-credit scene.

Yes yes, I will probably buy it at some point, just like SPAZ, Spec Ops: The Line and all the other games which no one is supposed to miss in their life. But I'm pretty occupied by other games at the moment, sorry.

ovoon: I just went out on a limb and bought Too The Moon, because it looked pretty good. I'm not usually one for simple art games, but I love a good story.

TTM kinda reminds me a bit of Winter Voices, an indie role-playing game, in the way it's episodic and completely story-driven.
It would of been better though if it was actually more of a game.

Alright, finished the game now. First of all: yes, it was emotional, beautiful and had a great story, but I guess I expected something even greater after all the hype. While the story was nicely done, I was beginning to doubt its powers of making all men weep about midway-through, because I didn't feel emotionally moved that deeply, even though lots of people have openly reported dropping some serious manly teardrops while playing this game. After three hours yesterday, I was getting too sleepy (it was over midnight), and put the game down, and finished it today. But I couldn't help but think, if the game would pick up later. Not to mention, the actual gameplay felt quite shallow and tacked on. I think I might have preferred a visual novel style with minimum interaction.
Anyway, so I continued/finished the game today, and during the final 15 minutes or so, something got caught in my eye and...well...eh...
Fuck.
OKAY, so the game finally succeeded in that makes-grown-men-shed-a-tear-department after all. But I will not divert from my point, which is that I did expect my whole experience to be a wild waterfest from beginning to end. Again, the story was very emotional/beautiful all the way through, but it wasn't until the near-end where everything was finally put in place, when it really struck that perfect chord in me. And again, like I said, the actual gameplay was really nothing to write home about. You just do the same things over and over again while the plot progresses. And I disliked the mouse movement too! And the horse-riding section! The graphics were nice though and fit very well.
Buuut, I guess I still have to recommend the game. While it was a disappointment in many categories, the story's still quite beautiful and a nice change from all these "RAAAWWWRRRR TASTE MY CHAINSAW, BEAST ARGGARGAGGARR!!!"-type of games. Although, if you're not the kind of person who can get bound inside a game completely (or otherwise an emotional person), then you might think your ~4 hours have been wasted once you finish the game.
