Played my two week trail during the summer and had a blast... Then school started and I D:

But yes, it is awesome even though I barely got off to a start in the game.
I tried the game several years ago but didn't get into it.

It was very complicated and the control was indirect / navpoint / whatever instead of the way every other space game controls. This game could do with both I think, the rigid system for bigger ships and more direct control over smaller ones.

Paczyk: I play this game for over 3 years now and what Outerdementor said is true, you can achieve a great many things in it but it all takes time.
Oy! Why are you playing games? Get back to slaving for us! :X

EVE is great. Every video I watch always makes me want to go back to it. Unfortunately, I've already sworn allegiance to Darkwind, and have no more time (and money) for another MMO. Alas! But if you have the patience, you really should go with EVE. I can't say those first two videos posted will definitely happen to you. EVE trailers tend to pick out only the really good parts (lol massive corporation battle without lag). But it can happen. And given that it's a one of its kind (true space sandbox), you can't go wrong if that's your cup of tea.

wodmarach: Jita is somewhere to go only when you feel like lagging (it's the main market hub usually has 1-2k players in it). :P
Have they fixed the lag yet? I understand with every expansion, CCP promises to "optimize" the game, but I'm not sure how far they've gone with that yet.

If you want a life, don't play EVE. Even the employees at PAX seemed addicted (the medical definition; I am not a doctor but am only being partially facetious).
If you love greifing it is awesome but i suspect if you just like doing missions and stuff its pretty boring.

Jita is on its own node and aslong as people give a little notice (read before server restart, so they can move it onto a node) combat isn't bad about 1k ships before you can black screen a system.. though it reached 2k at one point. the lag at gateway systems is still the main problem.
EVE is a great game, and really unique among MMOs. It's very politically oriented, similar to Tibia; Corporations/guilds rise, struggle for supremacy and fall (sometimes without even the opportunity to struggle for supremacy). Also like Tibia, it's very PVP-oriented. There's no "PVE-only" in EVE. If you leave the station, you can and possibly will be killed, whether because people are out to get you or you happened to be the victim of suicide gankers.

It's well worth trying, but I found it to be too slow for my liking, and after a few months found myself logging into the game only for 10 minutes each day to keep my skill queue filled. I don't typically have the patience for MMOs, especially slower ones like EVE, but I have to say that it's one of the best and most unique MMOs I've played. If you're into Sci-Fi, space opera, PVP, sandbox gameplay, casual gameplay, political gameplay, griefing, ninja looting/salvaging or generally lack any standard for morality, you'll love EVE Online.
