Definitely worth $20.

The gameplay is ok... The camera during combat is WAY too close and that can be frustrating, and the platforming is stupid easy. But the story is great, and the voice acting is phenomenal. The ending in particular is pretty darn awesome, and I'm really hoping there will be a sequel because I just want to see more of the characters.

What's with that? I've heard mixed opinion.

I've never understood that. I play games to, like, play... I can read at least twice as fast as I can listen, so if games are cutscene-intensive I turn on subtitles and click straight through the 'voice acting' as soon as I've finished reading a line.

Do people really sit there listening to people talk for half an hour between interactive parts of a game? Couldn't you just watch a movie instead?

So because the game has voice acting, that means there's no gameplay?

If you're not looking for a cinematic narrative, then don't play this game. But when it's acted by a high-quality cast including the likes of Andy Serkis, those parts are a joy and, yes, they add to the game.

You can say if I want to watch cinematics, why not watch a movie? But by that logic, if you want to just read subtitles, why not read a book?

For me, a quality storyline has a lot to do with whether or not I enjoy a game. Along the same lines, the delivery of the storyline is important as well, and goes a long way to immerse you in the game world. If you're not concerned with a storyline, to each his own, but that's why you don't understand why I would consider something like voice acting important.

orcishgamer: Well, for 20 bucks is an easy game with supposedly great story worth it? Dunno, I guess I'll give it a shot, I need something easy once I'm done with Castlevania (which you should definitely pick up for your PS3 if you have not). Most of the gameplay complaints center around how easy it is and the linearity of most of the levels.
avatar
evilguy12: Castlevania is another one I'm thinking of getting but I might go with the Sly Collection since I love PS2 platformers and never got to play any of those games.
I would get both if I were you :)

Castlevania Lords of shadow is a damn good game and castlevania in 3D done right

Sly collection is awesome as well, 3 brilliant platformers from last gen in HD on one Blu-ray

So this game is FULLY subbed? Cos I'm deaf and fuckin HATE this new trend of trying to get rid of subtitles to be "more immersive"... I NEED subtitles.

What's wrong with it is that I paid 60 bucks for a 6 hour campaign with a kind of mediocre story. If you're a Star Wars fan, play it, just rent it. Endor DLC is 1 dollar and lasts 2 hours, you can for the price of a rental plus 1 dollar, play for maybe 8 hours. That's it, that's all there is unless you dig their crappy Trials thing.

It's kind of weird intimating that hearing someone like Patrick Stewart voice a NPC is worse than reading a subtitle. I'm all about great voice acting and I'm glad games have finally started getting actual voice talent.

I just wanted to thank everyone who recommended this game. I just finished it and you weren't kidding, amazing. It's kind of short to recommend the full, new game price, but I'd almost do so regardless. However, it's already easily found for 30 or less. Do yourself a favor and play it.

On a side note, the PS3 version has 3D TV support if you buy the Pigsy's Perfect 10 add-on.

Speaking of which.... You played the add-on yet Orcish?
It adds roughly 5 hours to the game for only $10. Plus you play as Pigsy!!!!!

Happy you liked it! If not I would of felt all guilty.

It's 10 bucks (only paid 20 for the game) so I was going to ask if it was nearly as good before plunking down for it. It's the only way to get perfect achievements for the game (which doesn't look that hard, though the timed achievements look like a pain in the ass), but that isn't my top priority when I have Red Dead and a bunch of others in the queue. However, the game was outstanding so it might be worth getting it regardless. I won't lie, I usually wait until expensive packs go half price or at least 1/3 off before getting them.

And 5 hours of gameplay is actually pretty good for an addon...

I really like the Live Arcade titles on XBox 360, as well the promos are decent (no idea if PSN gets frequent good ones, the weekly title or addon packs are 1/3 to 1/2 off, sometimes even 2/3, and you can always score an entire game's complete addons on sale right before the sequel releases).

The disc switching on games like Lords of Shadow blows though, so that plus if you like Blue Ray you might go with PS3. The master key is blown now so you can hack it for homebrew once you're all done with it too (when will morons learn to fucking seed and salt right?).

I can't play this as I have no console, and really I don't care much, but from seeing videos I have to compliment this game on animation quality... just stunning movement on the characters. Great job.

The PS3 gets more deals more often & they are open to just about everybody. If you do decide spring for Playstation Plus though, you get a new free game (of varying value... some weeks it is a $2 game, some weeks it is a $35 game *case in point* Sam & Max Season 3 is the current free game), exclusive 60 minute trials, betas & addition deals. Plus the PS3 tends to get alot of the Arcade games as well (not all mind you) & even has some exclusive "Arcade" games of its own.

The facial animation is amazing. Even when all I'm seeing is a face and the bridge of the nose across a 47 inch tv, the details are very spot on. The faces are well beyond the "it looks human" threshold.
