I have been beta for a RPG maker made game called "Embric of Wulfhammer's Castle".

It is a really splendid game, mocking the typical RPG plots and the more. I really recommend playing it, as I had my joyride as beta:

The RPGmaker 2003 is one of the bests so far. Oh sure, we also XP, but the graphics are just...ugly. RPG2k3 however is close to old SNES RPGs everyone grew up with. Delicious content.

Tried a few times but when you pick up the 10000 year old scotch the screen goes black, doesnt lock up or anything just black

Seems to be a problem with your computer. Try playing it at windowed size by pressing F4.

My favorite RPG Maker to date is RPG Maker 2 for PlayStation 2. Unfortunately, there's no PC version, and none of the PC versions are even remotely similar. I intend to use a PS2 emulator on the PC the next time I decide to get into it. It's incredibly flexible, and while you can't do spritework, there are a lot of benefits to working in 3D. The best part is all of the cool camera effects and simple 3D architecture you can do.

As for your game, I'll have to give it a try sometime. I've yet to finish an RPG good enough to share with others, but I certainly intend to some day. :P
