QC: If I remember right you use "Q" to change the camera angle. If you're feeling cheaty, hit the ~ key, next to 1 in my case. J opens up the journal, right click for invetory, E to jump, space to interact with world objects.

Does that give you a decent start?
erm like wow, thanks :)

I played this game nearly non-stop for 3 years back in high school, kept making new characters whenever the computer screwed up or my laptop needed wiped, so I know a great big chunk in Tribunal and Morrowind. I can't help you with the other DLC though.

ONe last thing: There's a TON of things to find in the world, more than the shops will be able to give you in gold and more than you can keep up with. Find a place somewhere in the world to keep your things to store. Most people will say Balmora after you kill the Comma Tong in their bar close to the city's southern entrance. I prefer Syda Neen (Your starting place) because there's quite a bit of room and the NPC characters don't travel in the way very much. Once you've completed your character with the person in the very first building, the rest of the building I use to store everything small. Hides, meats, plants, rings and clothes and soulgems on the upper shelfs, the table for some tools and my arrows, the room downstairs for my books and potions.

Containers have a limit on size, so you can't just stuff everything into a barrel and be fine. So I tend to organize pretty heavily. I stack potions ontop of each other (no physics) based on stat and strength of the potion along the walls, fire sheilds and water breathing and all sorts of fun crap you can find lying around. Just outside that building is a section and a couple other containers, I use that area for armor sets, weapon sets, repair hammers and apocrathy tools and quest items, including what seems like a potential quest item such as Dwenmer artrifacts and books and scrolls. Another person is in the next building and there's little way to clear the room without him attacking you for theft, so I ignore it. All my weapons I keep close to the building through on the ground.

I think that's all the important bits.

My humble advice would be don't bother with Oblivion and Skyrim. Buy Morrowind, get the first 2 ones(Arena and Daggerfall) which are freeware. Also, if you're looking for a really good RPG, I suggest you buy a Wii console if you don't have one already and play Xenoblade Chronicles on it.

I picked up the 1st two after going to the site looking for info - I will be getting Morrowind. Thanks for the reply :)
The first two are nothing like the other three though. Just so you know. And don't have third person view.

Well, they're free. And they have historical value as well :P

sssh, just let him figure it all out. Big part of the Morrowind's charm, don't you think? I mean, it's not a hard game.

Ha, got everything working!
a) for the love of god, do NOT choose long hair at character creation screen.
b) sadly, depth of field is kind of wonky with third person camera. I'll tell you how to turn it off.
c) if you don't like the armor shine, it's optional

Just as an FYI, Elder Scrolls games really play like shit in third-person. It's more meant as a vanity mode, to see your character. I can't imagine playing them like that.

Give it a go though I guess, I am sure some people do it.

That is because of camera positioning and a lack of crosshair, issues that I've been solving for past hour. Successfully I might add.

I'm sure mods make it better, but I'm not sure they can overcome the fact the game was obviously designed to be played first-person. It's surely possible though, I just wanted to let him know the traditional opinion is third-person sucks. No one seemed to point that out bluntly yet.

I am pretty sure there is already a mod that adds crosshair to third person view
