Pheace: The amount of games being sold would drop drastically over time as people realize all they have to do is wait for someone to get tired of his, ragequit or be looking for a quick buck and voila, cheaper game with zero of that money going to the original developer unless the guy who sold it 'happens' to use that money to buy A) more games combined with B) from the same developer.
What exact world do you live in, that already happens. Except there's no disincentive to be a digital packrat (whereas in real life after moving shit for the third time in 3 years without ever touching it you might just sell it).

And in case you have not noticed the gaming industry doesn't need your pity any more than the oil industry, they are raking in record profits. So spare your tears for someone who's actually suffering, games are not some special snowflake just because they happen to be your favorite form of entertainment and you're favorite artists in the world are not entitled to some sort of extra profit above and beyond what any other entertainment media can command.

You should be able to sell your digital games used and you know what? Despite what you may think it'll actually increase initial sales. Those "massive Steam libraries", yeah those are built from long tail sales (with a few exceptions) which don't make much profit and don't really help a development shop stay in business (they'll be shitcanned or working on their next project by then regardless). There is value in being able to play games when your circle of acquaintances are playing them and that drives people to purchase new, second hand sales is one way to finance new purchases.
