"Monster spam is how it's supposed to play" Well, yeah, i'm sure it's not a bug, but i think infinite spawn is lame design. Seen it in MW, hated it then, hate it now.
[YEAH, i've made a COD comparison, crucify me.]

Also the levels will be more open but don't expect total non-linearity here. This was never meant ot be 100% like DN3D, and come to think of it DN3D was also pretty linear.....keycards, locked areas, etc.

Sure, it's not supposed to be DN3d. It'd better be more than that.;)

I played through the demo and wasn't impressed. The game nails some design philosophies that made Duke fun but screwed up on many. The EGO, bad level design and 2 weapon limit destroy what I think the core philosophies of Duke are.
Duke was a badass. However with EGO he often has to hide behind cover. A badass doesn't hide and wait for his EGO (think of the name EGO!) to recharge but instead bursts into a room and blows away anything that moves. Can't really do that anymore since the game limits your weapon choice... Now the level design seems bland. Trudging along 1 path is not Duke, a normal Duke 3D level had multiple paths.
Regardless the game has potential and I'll buy it on sale but my interest plummeted after playing the demo.

I agree a bit about the ego though, but again this is the demo.....it might be improved or not in the full game.
Also as I said above demos are meant to be linear......cuz they're demos. Wait for the full game and I bet my hat the levels are less linear.

Keycards is part of the map design ie locked doors blocking progress.

Demos are not supposed to be linear. The Duke 3D demo had the entire first act which was 1/4 of the game and had much much variation in the level design. Avernum 6 has a demo that throws you into this massive game. Crysis had a bit of a linear demo but let you go about the objectives differently instead of just beating the crap out of people. Mount & Blade gives you the entire world up to a certain level. Guild Wars gives you the entire game for a week until you hit a certain level I believe. World of Warcraft gives you the entire game until a certain level. The Witcher demo gives you the entire first act (out of 6) I believe. I can go on about demos in games not being linear because what you said is a bullshit excuse and you know it.

No, it doesn't. But it raises doubts. And i'm in doubt now. If i haven't played the demo, i'd probably be more interested in the game, than i am now. I'm not sure, if that's what demos are supposed to do nowdays.;)
