hucklebarry: You found someone else on the internet with an opinion?

tfishell: Not just AN opinion. THE opinion.
Yeah? Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

JTD121: Question; you have no stand-alone DVD players? Even the cheap portable ones you can buy a CVS/Walgreens/Rite-Aid/what-have-you? That would quite easily get past this 'DRM' you have.
It's a school, if the UK is anything like US they don't have money even for "crappy and cheap" DVD players from Walgreens.

JTD121: I was also unaware of this new development about 'NO PC DVD' protection. I'm sure it's been around quite a while, but again, I use a real, honest-to-DRM, DVD player for DVDs
How you can stand the viewing experience on standard DVDs is beyond me, that's a downgrade. I rip them and the reburn the important parts, or simply stream it from to my XBox 360 using UPnP.

If you're too lazy for the above, buy a AnyDVD license and watch them on your computer with VLC.

I don't even have my stand-alone DVD player plugged in and haven't for nearly a year, yuck!

keeveek: Yeah, a lot of DVD movies have a protection to disable ability to play it on computers. Why? I don't know, I just know that this is stupid.

AFnord: Which is why I stopped buying DVD-movies. I don't own a DVD player, and my computer worked just fine for it, until they started with the whole "no computer" DRM thing.
Yes a DVD player is cheap, but if they want to limit me from watching the game on my computer, they don't deserve my money.
Same here. I used to buy lots of movies on DVD, but got fed up by the DRM, so now I just record movies from TV to DVD instead.
Funny how the movie industry goes out of their way to alienate honest customers.

Elmofongo: Basically your story proves that DRM does not stop piracy, it encourages piracy even more
I thought that was common knowledge.
