yyahoo: I think you give the average user too much credit...

No worries. It's an easy mistake to make sometimes. ;)

WeAreNotAlone: As a example, Customer owns Deus-EX elsewhere and normal GOG price is $9.99... you send e-mails to customer trying to incite him to purchase a DRM FREE copy @ $1.99.

Martek: Cool. All anyone would have to do is lie a little and they could buy stuff at great discounts! Hopefully lots of retailers would adopt a similar system. Nobody lies on the internet, rite? /s
Dear customer, to get the discounted rate please attach a screenshot showing you logged into STEAM or competitors sites showing your user name and game in question.

Another option would be to give GOG access to STEAM public profile?

WeAreNotAlone: If you do (not, I assume you meant) only have a few games, given the choice purchase games thru GOG even if they are more expensive. Don't be sucked into STEAM as one day your STEAM collection will be worthless.

ET3D: That makes no financial sense. If you can buy games on Steam (or at another store selling Steam keys) for a much lower price than on GOG, that would be the prudent thing to do. For the small percentage of games you will really be interested in playing many years down the road, buy another copy at GOG. That would still end up cheaper than buying everything all at GOG.

First part should have read: "If you only have a few games, given the choice purchase thru GOG".

I'm about the cheapest guy you'll even meet, when I walk I squeak.

That said there are situations paying more is done on principle or other factors vs just price alone.

If the price is reasonably close paying a little extra is worth it to me to obtain games that are DRM-FREE, and that I've got a copy of the installer that can be run locally I can control.

To me it's worth the extra cost to not have to worry about install limits or other DRM el-bull-crap-o.

I also like the fact that purchasing thru GOG vs STEAM I have "ownership" of the product. (License to the software vs only a license to the STEAM SERVICE as per games acquired thru STEAM.)

While I admit STEAM pricing is very attractive and I do purchase STEAM games, pricing isn't everything.

The last reason for preferring GOG over STEAM is GOG gives a 30-day money back warranty on games they sell and they seem to "test" or have games modified to run on current OS's.

Ah, so we're generally in agreement, and I agree with your reasons of when to buy at GOG.
