mondo84: So where did $1+ million go? Those numbers are shady to me. The original cost for shooting the documentary was $100k, and I doubt the scope of that has changed.
Don't forget all the physical rewards like posters, T-shirts, DVDs and game boxes. I read that it will cost Double Fine $450,000 to make and ship those.

So we have roughly $450,000 for physical goodies + $100,000 for the documentary, $300,000 for Kickstarter/Amazon fees + logistics and personnel costs + taxes, which can easily add up to over a million dollars that don't go toward the actual game development.

Amazon takes 5% of the total funded amount. After that, Kickstarter takes an additional 5%. On top of that, there's always going to be some transactions that fail to go through.

The cost to manufacture and ship all the rewards totals at $473,231.

After all of that has been accounted for, they were left with $2,626,429.

As for the documentary, the original scope was a 6 month production period with a minimal budget of $100,000. However, the new scope calls of a full year of shooting, as well as paying for increased production values and even a documentary soundtrack to be made by Terrance Lee. The documentary budget is now $393,964.

You do the math on this, the game budget that is left is $2,232,465.
All points noted. I jumped the gun a bit on my assessment.
Yay, I received my Double Fine Adventure poster and T-shirt today :-D They also sent me a pin and a sticker, which I wasn't expecting. Can't wait for the game to come out.

I can't wait for the game to come out on GOG on the same date as the Steam version.

They have promised a DRM-free version of the game, so there is a real chance that they will release the game on GOG.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if they've given any sort of vaguely estimated release date? I assume some time next year, yeah?

Ooh, that's actually sooner than I was expecting (assuming the world doesn't end before then :P). Thanks.
