As a backer I can say I don't mind this. But I also don't like it.
Mainly because as I understand it they will use those money just like the kickstarter money and invest it in the game. Which is awesome as I get a better game. But personally I'd prefer they only use the KS money to make the game and leave pre-orders for when the game is about the be released and keep that as profit. Because they may be in the situation of releasing the game but everyone that wants it either backed them with KS or now with Paypal. Maybe I'm a pessimist in that view and I'm totally wrong, and they will make a ton of money. I just would like them to make some profit of this so that they can be financially secure and keep making games even without any backing.

Purchase plane ticket to Aruba.

Hey! Whatever happened to that Kickstarter project I funded?

:p
Huh, Ron Gilbert's been leaking some concept art on his blog, but apparently it's from a different adventure game he's making with Double Fine, not the Kickstarter one. Does this mean we're gonna see another awesome game? Was this announced a while ago and I'm out of the loop?

EDIT: Also, I didn't know Ron Gilbert made DeathSpank. Is it worth getting?

They get kickstarter money, this pre-order money, and digital distibution sales when its released also.....
Well, you have a Grim Fandango avatar, you know that game had a budget of 3,000,000? It´s not so much money, they thought this was going to ba a small project but now it turned into something big, really big; at least in expectation/excitement.

ZPavelZ: This is excellent news, but I am afraid their backers might feel a bit sour now.

TheJoe: Well I don't.
Nor I.
There's a couple of vocal idiots in the DF forums, who are really butt hurt about this, but personally I don't see anything wrong about this.

It's no Psychonauts, just a nice looking comic-style Diablo/Torchlight clone with a bit of satirical humor thrown in (not to laugh out loud but for the occasional chuckle), but it's definitely enjoyable. And I think it was the first Diablo-clone I played that had this item grinder in the inventory, completely removing the tedium of going back to town to sell your junk collection.
Bumping for a nice Schafer interview from E3. Not specifically DFA-related, but it's nice to hear his comments on various stuff: http://e3.gamespot.com/video/6381333/e3-2012-bonus-stage-tim-schafer

When they say "cost to make" they always includes the extremely costly marketing figures and Grim Fandango had a LOT of marketing so I think it's a dud number.

Also, smaller companies have less overheads and tend to be far more efficient than a big company. You can bet they can shave off a LOT of the money it cost to make Fandango. I'm working at a smaller company myself now and in less than three months, managed to cut the total money spent with 25%! It's a lot easier to make decisions as well because you don't have an overlord publisher constantly telling you what to change, making you waste time and money to boot.
