Hi all

99% sure I'm being a noob, but humour me...

Basically whenever I run a Dosbox game (for example, Syndicate) I get a fullscreen black screen, very rarely anything else. So I Alt+Tab and the Dosbox window is there, about a quarter of my screen, works fine when I click to it (except it's tiny). I go back to full screen via Alt+Enter and I get a static image of wherever is on screen, the mouse won't move.

I read up online, and edited the config file for Dosbox, changed the full screen res (no effect), window res (even odder, no effect, even changed it to huge number x small number to see if I could get a letterbox, no effect).

Baffled (in a word). Could it be running a different instance of Dosbox to the one I'm editing (if so I can't find it).

Try changing the graphic mode with the setup program

You mean ddraw and similar? Done that, no effect. All so odd...
I deleted the Dosbox folder and then ran the game, exactly the same. Does that not almost prove I have a secret Dosbox somewhere (!)?

Incidently, Simon the Sorceror runs full screen perfectly... I assume in Dosbox as well

Yes, I meant that.

Strange that changing the conf files doesn't have any effect.
What files are you editing exactly?
Are you launching the game from the shortcut or the folder?

EDIT: Simon the Sorcerer may be using ScummVM instead of DosBox

Just re-read your post, did you mean DOSBox 0.74 Options or is there another file I should be editing?

Thank you btw, it'll be something daft I imagine...
C:\Program Files (x86)\DOSBox-0.74\DOSBox 0.74 Options is what I'm editing.

And the file looks like:
fullscreen=false
fulldouble=false
fullresolution=1366x768
windowresolution=1366x768
output=ddraw
autolock=true
sensitivity=100
waitonerror=true
priority=higher,normal
mapperfile=mapper-0.74.map
usescancodes=true

No, there should be conf file in the game installation directory, like syndicate.conf or dosboxSyndicate.conf

spikie852: ...
Which file are you editing? My guess is that you're editing the general DOSBox configuration that's not being used. You need to edit the game specific one in the folder you installed the game to.

Ah yes, that's not the file you want to edit. Every single DOSBox based GOG uses its own separate config file in the game directory.

Interesting... I have found the Syndicate folder, found the Dosbox folder, but it doesn't have a setup/config file in it (it has 2 folders [documents and Video Codec] and 4 files, 2 dll's, the exe for Dosbox and a zipped tar file that won't extract. The main Syndicate folder doesn't have any setup files, though I got excited when I found Graphic Mode Setup (first time Gog'er :) ).

But when I try and run from that it says the game isn't installed :( That seemed to be the answer to my issues as it let me pick all sorts of options, I'm going to see if my issue is known.
the conf file should be in the game directory, not the dosbox subdirectory.

Have you tried launching the graphic mode setup program from the shortcut in the start menu?
:)

Yes, I have now, I googled and found lots of Gog posts about how to get it to work. Changed the overlay to ddraw and clicked play, runs perfectly! Now I just need to tweak the mouse sensitivity..

Thank you for your patience :) I'm off to walk men round in trenchcoats gunning down civilians and bad guys with no attempt to differentiate between the 2 (is it wrong that that is the first thing I did... More worrying that I last played this when I was 14, suprised I didn't become a serial killer...)

Thanks!

Don't forget to "persuade" some of them too ;)

Have fun!
