hedwards: Actually, what's amazing about the Nazi regime is that up until a few months before the end of the war, most Germans believed that they were winning. The Nazi propaganda ministry was just that effective.

As you imply, that's why fascism is so dangerous and why the TEA party and GOP need to be stopped before they can do this again. If they get trounced again in the 2012 Presidential campaign they'll need to reformulate. Unfortunately there's enough ignorance out there that they can trot out anti-intellectualism and xenophobia and probably do well.

Heretic777: Yeah, now that I'm older and wiser, I understand the danger of propaganda. I watch very little mainstream media, but the little I watch, I question everything. Does it make sense or does sound to good to be true.

As far as the Tea Party and GOP, looks like they might win because of Obama's lack of leadership. Sure, he gives good speeches, but that doesn't fix the economy. He better start doing something meaningful to help the economy for the average guy or he's going to lose in 2012 for sure.
Well, Mr. Hopechange was a nice combo breaker but it seems like he's just waiting until the second term. I still can't believe he let himself get steamrolled by the GOP. They ought to just bring back Clinton and will the return of the good times when the interns were willing and the economy was strong.

Zolgar: Could very easily be in the Us, the way this country is going.

The scary part is.. how many would follow him, because he was whipping the country back in to shape, getting things on track, etc.. and not realize what was happening until it was too late to stop it..

Just like Hitler.

Heretic777: Just look at how easily Bush started the war in Iraq. Because of fear mongering and propaganda, Bush was able to persuade most Americans into supporting the war in the beginning. Now, 8 years later and over 1 trillion wasted dollars, many Americans are regretting the war, but its too late. By the fall of 1944, most Germans probably regretted supporting Hitler and his wars, but its too late, their lives were ruined. History repeats, but not always exactly.
And just to be fair:
Let's also look at the blind support Obama has, people to this day still acting like he's some kind of messiah... wouldn't take much for someone with that kind of support to reach the 'fascist dictator' position.
And let us also not forget Ross Perot that fascist pig. :p
Hurrah! Hurrah!
*cocks imaginary shotgun*
That was my reaction, though I don't care too much for it since I'm not German.
Congrats to the German people who wanted to play it but couldn't! Hope you have fun in Hell! (in DOOM, I mean :P)

If the economy/unemploment doesn't turn around by next summer, Obama will probably lose in 2012. No President has ever gotten re-elected with the economy and unemployment in this bad shape.

True, I realized after the fact that it was more his early support I was talking about, and less so his current support.

>.> Then I also got thinking what it would actually take for a US president to be able to go as far as Hitler did, and.. well, I won't derail this topic any further ;)

The problem is that he's a Democrat and the Democratic Party motto is "we flop therefore we are."

Seriously until the individual states clean up their primary process the way that we did in WA and they did in IA that's going to be how it is, whomever it is that is the most extreme in the primaries is likely to carry the final election.

"There's a giant sucking sound.."

I think that was one of his lines...
