Another game I have been trying to get to work properly is Doom 3.

I managed to find out how to change it to widescreen - looks much better, and tried to find out if I could get a mod for Doom 3 to have subtitles... Apparently there IS a mod out there called Doom 3 [cc] 2.0 - the only problem is it is only compatible with Doom 3 v1.3 - and apparently refuses to work with 1.3.1....

I don't want to have to downgrade the patch and then have Steam crack a wobbly on me and refuse to play the game as some have said happened to them... The thing is - they have made the subtitles open source so someone can patch it up to work for 1.3.1. I'm not a coder but it can't be THAT hard right? I mean, the whole thing's already written and apparently is AMAZING in quality, all it needs is to be made compatible???

If someone could do that, I will buy them a GoG.

Cheers all

The original modder could likely update it but he surely would have by now if he had any interest. It's a shame people support auto-patching with such fervor when it has major downsides like this one.
My sympathies - it is darn near impossible to play Doom3 without audio because important information is in those audio-only-sound-bytes (for no apparent reason). I don't have any modding knowledge, or I'd be delighted to help.

Exactly. It would make the game so much easier - I remember playing it years ago and getting completely lost a few times due to not being able to hear the fucking audio things you pick up for valuable hints and directions. So annoying.

It isn't perfect, but maybe this will do for now - you could print it up and refer to it, or alt-tab maybe? It's a thorough transcript of all PDA files that includes audio files, so you could wait to look things up 'til you find them.

GameRager: One mod has PDA codes in an email list in your own email folder. That way you don't need to listen to anything really. It's the one with all the swearing and the pink body armor I think.
Link pls?

GameRager: Lewdicrous Pack 2.0

Be warned it has a bit of swearing in it......but a funny song at title screen, and other funny bits......like changes in base paintings/a funny email or two added to the initial pda setup(one with all the codes/etc)/funny sound effects in some cases/pink body armor/etc.
I'm deaf in case you didn't get that.... ;)

GameRager: Well....I must say you seem to type well for being deaf and all.
Everyone is always surprised to learn I'm deaf if they did not meet me in the first place (i.e. internets)

I'm just lucky enough to have had the following combination - a brain, a good set of parents and simply was good at learning.
If you want to know exactly what it is I have, it's called Usher's Syndrome. Basically a syndrome must have 3 or more individual disabilities that recur regularly together... So mine are deafness (profound in my case) since birth, night blindness and Retinitis Pigmentosa which means I'm gradually losing my peripheral vision and as it is I have less than ten percent of my vision left. *shrug* Pretty shitty deal I got this time huh?

Doesn't stop me from loving art and being an artist. And eating books... Mmmm brain fooooood.
